Apple finally announced its new flagship cellphone, the iPhone 5S. Many of us expected a brand new iPhone 6; unfortunately we were left disappointed. Apple decided to make us wait a year for what simply turned out to be an upgraded version of the iPhone 5. The new model is technologically superior to the 5, with its improved graphics performance and upgraded processor that reports to be twice as fast as the previous model. Apple also decided to refine its new phone’s battery and camera performance.
Yet aesthetically, the 5S shares the same look and design as the 5 albeit with a slightly different home button that also doubles as a fingerprint scanner (feeling the itch to upgrade yet?). Upon first glance, it seems like it would be difficult to tell the models apart – so how can you let everyone know that you just got the new iPhone without bragging about it like a douchebag? Well luckily for you, the 5S comes in a new exclusive color, GOLD! Get that model and everyone will see that you aren’t some chump who still uses the now seemingly-barbaric iPhone 5.
If your current cell phone now seems inadequate, you can purchase the new 5S at Apple’s regular price points: with the 16GB model priced at $199, the 32GB at $299, and the 64GB at $399, all on contract with your choice between AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. Unfortunately, if you have T-Mobile you will probably have to purchase the phone at full retail price as T-Mobile no longer subsidizes their cell phone prices.
Instead, if you’re looking for something slightly more colorful and on the cheaper side, Apple also announced a brand new iPhone 5C (does the C stand for cheap or colorful? Hm…) which is basically the iPhone 5 with a plastic body. This model will replace sales for the iPhone 5 and retail for $100 (16 GB) and $200 (32 GB) on contract.
Preorder starts this Friday, September 13th. Stores will have both phones by the next Friday, September 20th. Or you can decide to hold out for the iPhone 6, which Apple will surely deliver in the future.
Maybe not.
