Yup, like the headline says, the next Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode will feature an opening created by the director of Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim. I guess it makes sense — The Simpsons doesn’t seem terribly concerned with being funny anymore, so why not go the other direction and hire guys like Guillermo Del Toro to make their Halloween episode legitimately scary?
Hit the jump for some more details…

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Del Toro’s opening will “feature monsters and classic characters from horror films of the past several decades.” Hmmm! Well, that certainly sounds Del Toro-esque.
The rest of the episode will of course do the usual three short stories thing. The first “sees Homer Simpson traveling around Springfield wreaking havoc in a rhyming take on a popular children’s story” (no thanks), the second begins when “Bart is beheaded during a kite accident, and…” (I’ve heard enough) and the third is a parody of the 1932 film Freaks starring Moe and Mr. Burns, which actually sounds like not a terrible idea.
The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXIV airs on October 6th, and I’ll be watching, because I barely remember a time in my life when they weren’t making new Simpsons episodes, and I don’t know what I’d do if they stopped. Probably feel very old and sad.
