So who are the best and the worst dressed sportsmen for Winter Olympic Games?
The opening ceremony of the Olympics is always a global catwalk with audience reactions to team uniforms ranging from enthusiastic approval to wholehearted disdain. Some countries really bring it with the help of their best designers, while others leave us wanting a little more… And let’s be honest, some of ‘em leave us laughing. So in the spirit of the games, let’s take a look at what 2014 in Sochi will bring us: the good, the bad and yes, the ugly.
The 5 Best of Official 2014 Games Team Apparel 1. France
No shocker here, the French never let us down and with Lacoste’s help as their official designer, they’re looking better than ever.
2. Sweden
Tapping into H&M means Nordic cool, clean and fresh designs for team Sweden. We wouldn’t expect anything less.
3. Norway
Another Scandinavian country in the mix. Why? Because they stick to the basics and keep it classy. Nicely done, Norway.
4. Estonia
Coming out of left field this year is Estonia, but how could they not make the top five looking this adorable?
5. U.S.A.
A little redemption song for the U.S. this year — yep these uniforms were finally made in the U.S. After the frenzy of the summer Olympics, Ralph Lauren learned his lesson.
The 5 Worst Official 2014 Games Team Apparel. 1. Official Volunteers
Aww, the poor volunteers! The 2014 Games official worst outfits fall not onto an actual country, but onto them. On a positive note, no one will have trouble spotting them.
2. Russia
Yikes, the host country didn’t quite pull off stunning team wear. Albeit less dizzying than their Summer Games collection, the “R U” on these makes us want to finish the question, “Are you — sure about these?”
3. Germany
Without a doubt causing the biggest uproar in the fashion world this year is Germany. Some speculate that the extremely colorful frocks are making a political statement, but we think the greater issue at hand is utter lack of chicness of the uniforms, which resemble an acid trip gone wrong.
4. Latvia & Lithuania (tie)
No, these countries did not unite. But, folks, we have a tie! Latvia, oh poor, poor Latvia. It looks like they had to borrow grandma’s sweater (and hat, gloves and scarf, at that). As for Lithuania, well, we wonder if they had to borrow uniforms from the airport signaling crew.
5. Czech Republic
Things were going alright until the hat — which was possibly taken from a Dr. Seuss book.
