This playful project features a collection of delicious foods that you can't actually eat. The Comfort Food series is a collaboration between model maker and prop stylist Jessica Dance and food photographer David Sykes. The two paired up to put a little twist on typical food photography.
Dance used a knitting machine to produce everything from a burger and fries to a full English breakfast out of 100% lambswool. Sykes then worked to build the settings in which the food was placed and to perfectly light the scenes so that the texture is subtle but still visible. From a distance, the compositions seem to be overhead shots of some perfectly arranged meals. However, upon closer inspection, viewers will discover the rows, loops, and texture of the knitted objects.
Sykes says, "I love shooting food and I always want people to do a double take with my images and spend some time working out what’s unusual about them."
