My legally blind father and I made a coffee table out of the tree I climbed as a kid.

The cross cut from the tree we had to cut down. I climbed this tree as a kid.

One side was a lot thicker than the other so my dad used his belt sander to level it out as much as possible.

He worked on it for probably an hour and a half.

After sanding with 220 sandpaper the rings and other details became visable.

Putting the turquoise inlay in was difficult and I probably wouldn't do it like this again. I used a thick epoxy to seal the bottom so I didn't use as much turquoise. Then I poured an epoxy resin over the top to seal it in. The problem came when the wood soaked up all the epoxy and had to pour more on

I then sanded all the resin down to make it flat again. This took up a lot of time and again, I wouldn't do it like this a second time.

This is the finished top. I used a heat gun with an epoxy resin designed for finishing table tops. There is a total of three coats of epoxy resin on the top and two coats on the bottom.
