The 6 different breeds of foxes present at this sanctuary are free-roaming and move about as they please.
Like in western culture, foxes are seen as clever little creatures in Japan.
In Japan, foxes are associated with Inari Okami—the religious deity of fertility, rice, and prosperity that takes the form of a fox.
They are also represented as cunning shape-shifters in Japanese folklore.
The fox village has continued to have visitors, since it first opened in 1990.
