You know what they say – wine on a Friday makes you whine on a Saturday. We shudder to think what having a six-litre bottle of wine would feel like but perhaps paying the price of $304,375 for it would cause an even bigger headache. It may just be the world’s most expensive bottle of wine and its six glorious litres of Cheval Blanc 1947. It was sold at an auction in November 2010 for $304,375, breaking a previous record held at the auction house.

When something gets sold for more than three times its actual value it’s undoubtedly a jaw-droppingly expensive buy and this 9-pound gold nugget is no exception. The nugget is believed to be the biggest California nugget in existence and was rumoured to have been found where the California Gold Rush took place back in 2010. It took a record breaking 120 seconds of bidding at a Sacramento auction before a buyer secured the absurd purchase and now is the proud owner of the world’s biggest existing gold nugget.

With 320 carats of black and white diamonds, the Charles Hollander Chess Set is a sight to behold. There’s only seven of these luxury chess sets ever to have been created in the world. The truly impressive set took over 9,000 hours to create and was crafted from over 1 kilogram of gold and set with 9,900 black and white diamonds, according to Charleshollandercollection.com. It became known as the Royal Diamond Chess Set and was designed by renowned French artist, designer and master of jewelry, Bernard Maquin who just took the game of chess to a whole new level of cool.

I think it’s safe to say that this entry came as the biggest surprise to us. Then again we’re only just halfway through our list and much more lies in store for you dear readers. You have the city of Manhattan to thank for this entry at number 8 which features a $1 million parking spot. It’s located in an eight-story luxurious condominium building over at 66 E. 11th St in downtown Manhattan. Buying it would be the equivalent to paying a $115 ticket for illegal parking every day of your life — for 24 years of your life!

When Floyd Mayweather buys the most expensive car in the world he gets to make it onto our list of Expensive Buys because let’s face it, he earned it. The model is a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita and is rumoured to shine like millions of diamonds. Mayweather bid farewell to his Ferrari and set his sights on this little upgrade. Some may say it sounds like a fancy espresso machine but the car is coated in custom carbon fibre and can reach 254 miles per hour, going from 0 to 60 in just under 3 seconds. It’s as fast as a bullet and chances are you won’t even see it when it drives past. Either that or the fact that there are only two people on the planet who own a CCXR Trevita so you may not see it anytime soon on US soil unless you happen to cross lanes with Mayweather.

Our next expensive buy in the world is a great example of life imitating art and features the Heart of the Ocean necklace. Luxury watchmakers Patek Philippe & Co are behind the impressive creation which also wins at being the most complicated handmade watch in the world. It is comprised of 900 individual parts, and, according to Sotheby’s, “is the most advanced timepiece ever made without the assistance of computers.”

We’re not sure what’s more surprising about this next entry at number 4 – the fact that the diamond is valued at around $48.4 million or that the billionaire owner bought it for his 7-year-old daughter? The 12.03-carat diamond is vivid blue in colour and auctioneer David Bennett called it the “highest price per carat” ever obtained for any kind of stone. The Blue Moon Diamond is all kinds of extraordinary and is currently the world’s most expensive and largest diamond of all time.
