Allergies suck
16 jun 2013 00:00

Summer is supposed to be a carefree time of sun and fun. But thanks to the insanely high pollen and all kinds of nature wackiness, we’ve been brought to our knees by out-of-control allergies. The sneezing, the need for tissues close at hand at all times and the red nose and watery eyes that are ever so appealing are getting in the way of our summer fun. So we decided to offer up some solutions to set ourselves free from these no-good allergens. You’re welcome!

Robert Downey Jr.
18 jun 2013 15:33

We’d probably be upset too, if somebody told us we were going to meet Iron Man, and we actually met Robert Downey, Jr. in a polo shirt … if we were 18 months old, which is why this kid is crying. If *we* met Robert Downey, Jr., we would probably just find the nearest closet to hide in, to avoid humiliating ourselves in front of somebody we’ve had a crush on since whenever ‘Weird Science’ came out. It looks like this kid’s outdoors, so we would probably be crying because there are no closets. At least RDJ tried to make him feel better. Check out the cute photos below.

Funny texts from Dad

Good ol’ dad. You wouldn’t exist if not for him. But that’s not all that makes dads great. Let’s not forget their penchant for terrible jokes. Combine that with technology, and you’ve got some text treasures on your hands. Here’s just a smattering of ridiculous dad texts to honor dads for Father’s Day.

Miss Utah Gives Probably the Worst Answer in the History of Pageants
18 jun 2013 15:25

Guys, pageant contestants aren’t just pretty faces — they’re also extremely capable of saying things so incoherently stupid that it gives you a headache. Here was the question: “A recent report shows that in 40& of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?” Not since Miss Teen South Carolina have we seen such a confusing response to a fairly straightforward question. Sincerely, look at Jezebel for maybe one day a year, and you should be able to at least bluff your way through that one. Instead, what happened? No really, what happened — we genuinely don’t know. This immediately popped to mind:

Kanye West - I Am A Dog [YEEZUS]
18 jun 2013 15:23

Whether you love or hate Kanye’s new album ‘Yeezus’ (or haven’t heard it yet because it hasn’t *technically* been released), you’re going to love this track. It’s the “I Am a Dog” remix of ‘I Am a God.’ Kanye maybe takes himself a little bit too seriously (for a rapper who complains about his croissants taking too long to get to the table) so this dog adds a wonderful touch of levity. NSFW, because Kanye is serious these days, and that means he’s swearing. A lot. Enjoy!

Some Ridiculous ‘Yeezus’ Cover Art From Kanye Fans Who Can’t Wait
18 jun 2013 15:17

While Kanye West’s latest album has leaked, we can still dream about what it’s going to look like. Okay, so we do know what it’s going to look like, *technically,* but we really don’t see why that should stop us from admiring the ridiculous album art attempts of people on the internet who thankfully don’t have much else to do with their time. We don’t care what it actually looks like, this is how ‘Yeezus’ will forever be in our minds — a Shirtless Kanye with a glorious blond mane leaning on his bike. And the stonewash jeans…be still, heart! Here are some more great offerings:

Roommates Pull Epic Makeover Prank on Poor Guy’s Bedroom
18 jun 2013 15:15

The one advantage of having super-broke roommates is that they don’t have the extra cash to spring on giving your room a pretty, pretty princess makeover while you’re overseas travelling. This man did not have that advantage. Redditor Twoverend shared these photos, saying this makeover happened while he was overseas for two months. This video (containing some NSFW language, because what would you say if you came home to a little girl’s dream bedroom?) shows the whole process. Here are some detailed pics:

Watch Russell Brand Completely Humiliate Rude Morning Show Hosts
18 jun 2013 15:12

Granted, this all probably took place at four in the morning, but the hosts of ‘Morning Joe’ are going to have to be sharper than this if they want to stand a chance against Russell Brand. Brand was not having any of their small talk or bad manners and took them to task for it. He drilled them all on NSA leaker Edward Snowden and tried to get an opinion from them — an effort that resulted in nervous jokes about his chest hair. In addition, he also called one of the show’s hosts a “shaft grabber” and told her to lose the wedding ring. It’s pretty epic.

More Ridiculously Specific Lego Faces We Can Expect
18 jun 2013 15:12

A recent study has shown that the faces of Lego characters are expressing a wider array of emotions than they used to, you know, since they used to only be happy. Anger, confusion, deceptively neutral — all are making appearances. While “scientists” are worrying about the effect that playing with a bunch of miffed tiny men is going to have on the psyches of children, we just want to know what Lego’s going to do next. Since we have no patience, we went ahead and made some potential Lego mini-figures of our own. Because there are only so many professions left before they have to turn to the incredibly mundane. (Photoshops by Kristy Puchko). Check out the study here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2013/jun/12/lego-faces-getting-angrier-study

Vintage Photographs Of Life In 19th Century New York City
18 jun 2013 15:03

When you think of New York or The Big Apple, you might envisage neons signs, crowded streets, celebrities fluttering around and yellow taxi’s whizzing past you endlessly. That’s true these days, but back in the 19th century New York City was a very very different place. Back then, it was only just beginning to define itself, although even in those formative years the disparity between rich and poor was as evident as it is today. One thing that has stood the test of time is that New York City, is a place built on dreams, aspirations and genuine hard graft. Certain individuals crawl on the backs of others to get ahead, whilst some break their backs to help others – the rest of us are just innocent bystanders. Journey with us as we take a trip down memory lane to see how the boroughs and bright lights of The Big Apple evolved from their humble beginnings.

‘Prancercise’ Lady Makes John Mayer Music Video a Million Times Better
18 jun 2013 15:07

Everything about John Mayer makes us so conflicted. His music is kind of lame, but he‘s actually a great guitarist. His music is kind of lame, but look at him without a shirt on. His music is kind of lame, but he has a great sense of humor. This video is no different — we don’t want to listen to a whole John Mayer song, but how can we not when the entire thing is just the Prancercise lady “Romancercizing” down the street? We can’t. We watched it. And then we sent an email to a friend asking if she remembers the time a guy she was dating who we nicknamed “The Douche” locked her in his apartment and forced her to listen to John Mayer and give him the respect he deserves. So conflicted.

Nylon Stockings Transformed Into Horrifying Monsters

Rare Color Photos Of Women Working During WW2
17 jun 2013 20:45

In the countless history books, many of the major of achievements are based on the accomplishments of men. But in the darkest depths of World War 2, whilst men toiled in the trenches, dying in their thousands - it was their wives back home that kept the nation running. They manned the factories, raised their children as a single parent, provides clothing and industry all the tools needed to help their loved ones continue the assault. But one of the most significant roles they collectively played, was as a comforter to widows right across the nation. A community bonded both in their love for their husbands and partners, but also for their country. At any given moment it might be their son, their father, their husband that would be struck down – a constant reminder that every family bore the same risks, worries and fears as each other. Whilst the 1940′s was an era of violent conflict and global turmoil, it was also one of community and unity. Those women & these rare colour photographs are a testament to that.

This Stunning Chandelier Looks Like A Deep Sea Creature
17 jun 2013 20:44

Whilst this flawless creation might look like an undiscovered deep-sea creature that dwells deep in the Mariana Trench, it’s in fact a stunning chandelier. It’s the wonderful work of Czech Designer Kateřina Smolíková (she’s still only a student!) who took her inspiration from luminescent oceanic organisms like jellyfish. She rightly won the Outstanding Student Design Award for the piece which she titled ‘Skyphos’. Also interesting is that the chandelier itself is powered with LED, which in fact is one of the most efficient light sources available, reducing its impact on the environment. A subtle tribute to the imagination of nature and an acknowledgement that we need to preserve it.

The Cure fans

Now of course it’s all about the songs, but becoming a hardcore music fan goes much deeper than just casually enjoying a few tracks. It might take a few months or even a few years, but over time there are certain bands & artists whose style, lyrics and attitude resonate with you. And as time goes on, your memories of discovering them or seeing them live give you a deeper connection with the artists – regardless of whether you’ve ever met them or not. So it’s no surprise that when it comes to live shows, many music fans dress up to relate and also celebrate with the bands they love. You’re there because of the music, but by dressing in the style of your music idols it’s a further acknowledgement of your passion and love for them. Talented photographer James Mollison hit up the ingenious idea of traveling around the USA and Europe inviting fans into his mobile photography studio just outside countless live venues. His aim was to shoot fans prior to the show – all decked out to the nines. In total he photographed over 500 fans from all different genres collating them all in his fascinating & refreshing book ‘The Disciples’. In doing so, he’s not only successfully documented the tribal nature of passionate & creative music fans, he’s highlighted just how powerful and inclusive the world of music in contemporary culture can be.

Charmin Sponsors Hilarious ‘Stop Skidmarks’ Billboard At NASCAR Race
14 jun 2013 15:36

Product placement and sponsorship can be a precarious situation. Companies who spend millions of dollars on a branding campaign can wind up coming across as too pushy or stiff to relate to consumers. Sometimes, however, a corporate branding campaign loosens its grip and the result is a memorable ad from a brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Such is the case with Charmin toilet paper, which unveiled a ‘Stop Skidmarks’ billboard at the NASCAR All-Star festivities in Charlotte, N.C. this weekend. Sports Business Journal’s Tripp Mickle tweeted out the hilarious ad on Saturday afternoon.

What if Kane Ran For Political Office in 2014?
01 jun 2013 00:00

Professional wrestling and political office have a lot in common. They’re both all about getting the right reaction from a big crowd, and both feature a lot of acting, so wrestlers getting into politics isn’t a crazy notion. Come 2014, there might be another thing linking wrestling and government — WWE Superstar Kane. ‘The Big Red Monster’ Kane, known as Glenn Jacobs in the private sector, might be joining the Senate race in 2014. Nothing is confirmed, but Kane is supposedly open to the idea of running against Senator Lamar Alexander, who has Tennessee’s seat in the Senate. Kane is a Libertarian, and has never been afraid of showing it. He’s also been very open when it comes to sharing his opinions on politics. He’s most recently been speaking out against Internet tax, which is certainly as good a place to start as any. This got us thinking about the possibility of Kane holding political office. What if the Jacobs ran and became a Senator, or hell, the President of the United States. It doesn’t hurt to dream big. Here are some iconic images and historical moments re-imagined with the Big Red Political Machine.

Kevin Nealon is awesome to talk about SNL and Political Potheads
14 jun 2013 15:33

Kevin Nealon just seem like a nice guy. I based this assumption on his numerous TV appearances, stint on SNL, random tweets about my home state and everything else I’d read or heard about him over the years. “Oh, you’re interviewing Kevin Nealon?” my assistant editor asked last week while looking over the weekly assignments. “I met him backstage at ‘Saturday Night Live’ when I was like seven. I just remember him being really nice to me, even though I was a nerdy little kid.” Nice to a child? Oh, he must be demented. Kevin called me way too early in morning considering he was in California and had just flown back from the east the night before. Fine, he’s just a nice dude. We talked SNL, politics and his latest Showtime comedy special, ‘Whelmed, But Not Overly’, which is now available on DVD.

Honestly, we don’t really care if the games actually existed, we’re just happy the posters do.

Can’t Afford Google Glass? Maybe You Should Consider GooOgle Glasses

Sure, it would be awesome to own a pair of Google Glass, but like our moms said on Christmas morning ’91 when there was no SNES under the tree, “Blah blah blah what am I made of money blah blah blah?” This guy has the right idea buy selling knockoff GooOgle Glasses. We’re not sure if he sold any of his wares but it looks like he managed to pick up a babe with his “I’ll put in a calendar date for us to meet up — Google calendar, Tuesday with the pretty girl. It’s set in my face!” pick-up line. The video was the brainchild of Deanna Director and JD Beebe with Ian Fidance as the man selling the glasses. His product might be slightly inferior but Google is probably jealous they didn’t think of his slogan: ”Don’t use your hands like a dummy, use your face like you’ve got a brain.”
