The great depression saw the introduction of many institutions that are still prevelant today. Among the ones we encoutner or hear about with some frequency include social security and the FDIC. These things were institued to help with the failing economy.
At the same time another institution starting to develop on the railroads and out in the wide open spaces away from the unemployment lines and the food dispencaries. This movement was that of the Hobo.
The Hobo epitomized a freedom that had not been seen in this country since befre the massive expansions west. alas this freedom and era is coming to an end. Here are some shots of hobos doing what hobos do, being free.
