When you think of New York or The Big Apple, you might envisage neons signs, crowded streets, celebrities fluttering around and yellow taxi’s whizzing past you endlessly. That’s true these days, but back in the 19th century New York City was a very very different place. Back then, it was only just beginning to define itself, although even in those formative years the disparity between rich and poor was as evident as it is today.
One thing that has stood the test of time is that New York City, is a place built on dreams, aspirations and genuine hard graft. Certain individuals crawl on the backs of others to get ahead, whilst some break their backs to help others – the rest of us are just innocent bystanders.
