What Happens When You Fire a Gun Underwater (in Slow Motion)
24 jul 2013 16:44

We’ve never actually wondered what would happen if you fired a gun underwater, but now that we can see it, obviously we’d really like to find out. Here the Slow Mo guys have set up their swimming pool to film firing a gun underwater at 27,000 frames per second. To give you an idea of how slowed down that is, the standard rate of frames per second in film is 24. So this is more than 1,000 times slower. Pretty cool, although we don’t recommend firing off a few rounds in your own pool.

9 Tattoos Justin Bieber Will Probably Get Next
24 jul 2013 16:36

Another day, another regrettable Justin Bieber tattoo. Most recently, Bieber got his mom’s eye tattooed on the inside of his elbow. You know, so that she’ll always be watching. ALWAYS. Gross. Justin’s body is quickly becoming a road map of bad decisions, so we decided to speculate about what horrible tattoo he’ll be getting next. We’re not saying there’s an office pool, we’re just saying we should probably start an office pool. Here’s what we’ve come up with so far.

Take a Trip Back in Time With the ’90s Button

WARNING: if you press the ’90s button, you will lose hours of your life. The90sButton is a simple, single serving (ish) website, comprised of a glittery rainbow background, and a portal to the past, which reads “UNLEASH HEAVEN?” and is spiced up with a picture of David Hasselhoff. On top, three MC Hammers dance. It is clear this is no ordinary button. Pressing the button brings up a random song from the ’90s, and we mean *random.* Here are three we got, but don’t stop here, go press the button for yourself. And press it. And press it.

More Incredible 3D Latte Art by Kazuki Yamamoto
24 jul 2013 13:45

Japanese artist Kazuki Yamamoto has got the Internet buzzing about his 3D latte art again – this time he’s back with a very impressive Salvador Dali-inspired foam sculpture. The latte foam in the cup is shaped as a melting clock in Dali’s The Persistence of Memory. The clock, however, is not the only new 3D latte artwork by Kazuki since the last time we featured him on our site. He has a very active twitter account with more than 110K visitors where he tweets his latest latte art creations. Kazuki serves this kind of coffee for the visitors of the Cafe10g in Osaka, Japan. 26-year-old artist became an Internet sensation after the world discovered his 3d coffee foam sculptures: besides rising up in their own cup, some of them even reach out for others. Before he developed this technique, Kazuki used to create some incredibly detailed flat artworks on the coffee foam, with his subjects varying from portraits of famous people to cartoon characters. The artist dreams of opening his own cafe in Tokyo one day – gotta admit, this business definitely sounds like his cup of tea… erm, coffee!

25 Rarely Seen Artworks Painted By Adolf Hitler
23 jul 2013 14:54

Before putting his hand to the executive order that lead to millions of innocent individuals being killed, nearly destroying the Western world as we know it, Adolf Hitler was an upcoming (re: unsuccessful) artist. He actually applied to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, only to be turned down not once but twice due to his “unfitness for painting” – it’s not hard to see why.

NEW! ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Trailer
22 jul 2013 15:25

If Peeta and Katniss (given the hilarious mashup name Peeniss by fans) are your thing, there will be plenty of angst in the upcoming ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ film. But since there will also be a lip lock between Katniss and Gale (aka Kale), that should make the other half of the fandom happy. If you’re in that latter group, the brand new theatrical trailer has some Jennifer Lawrence on Liam Hemsworth action just for you. While at San Diego Comic-Con promoting the upcoming film on Saturday, July 20, Lawrence talked about a gross kiss between her and co-star Josh Hutcherson (warning: it contains some pretty unsexy bodily fluids) and discussed the wild parties the cast held while filming in Hawaii. “[They] were so weird,” Lawrence admitted. “Woody Harrelson in a cropped top was my favorite. He got really hot and wanted to borrow a shirt of mine because he wore a thermal and the only thing he could fit in was a baggy crop top.” “And the best part is nobody mentioned it! The whole party, like nobody said anything. They’re just like, ‘Yeah, Woody’s in a crop top.’ That was great.” Can you say “favorite new mental image”?

Controversial & Private Lives Of Superheroes Exposed
10 jul 2013 12:00

French illustrator Grégoire Guillemin has taken his love of superheros and added a bold new twist to the art form. Rather than showcasing them in the midst of battle or fusing supervillains with their modern-day equivalents or even perhaps incorporating them into historical artworks, he’s simply decided to reveal their intimate and private lives. His illustrative series titled ‘Secret Life of Heroes’literally pops out of the screen at you, not only because of his bold colour set but also because of the illustrations themselves… Batman and Robin get it on, Snow White kicks back with a cigarette, Wonder Woman seductively sucks on a banana and all whilst Catwoman indulges on some girl on girl action with Poison Ivy. It’s a vivid blast of colourful, sexy and irreverent fun – best of all, you can get your hands on these artworks (and many more) for under $30 via Greg’s Society6 page. Trust us, your walls will thank you for it.

Cartoon Characters All Grown Up

Her illustrations cover Pepper Ann, all the Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, even the sudents from The Magic School Bus. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any Doug or Captain Planet, but I’m not one to complain. Creative Celebrity Pizza Portraits by Domenico Crolla
09 jul 2013 12:30

Glasgow-based Italian chef Domenico Crolla both runs his restaurant Bella Napoli and creates celebrity pizza portraits. The restauranteur/artist uses nothing more than your basic pizza ingredients—dough as his canvas, tomato sauce and cheese to "paint" and play with negative space—to produce each of his well-crafted portraits. He puts his skilled hands to use to recreate the image of musicians, actors, and international fashion icons. Crolla's growing collection of portraits already feature classic icons like Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra as well as current pop stars like Rihanna and Beyoncé. Other well-known faces include fashion icons Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, and Karl Lagerfeld. Crolla has even thrown TV personality and chef Gordon Ramsey into the mix. The face that began the ongoing artistic adventure in the kitchen, though, is that of the late martial arts and action film superstar Bruce Lee. Following this pie, Crolla received a "thank you" note from Lee's daughter Shannon which encouraged him to pursue his artisan craft. He continues to do so today, especially after receiving countless messages of recognition and gratitude from many other celebrities.

Tiny Mechanical Insects Made of Watch Parts
28 jun 2013 11:18

Chicago-based artist Justin Gershenson-Gates, aka A Mechanical Mind, creates tiny steampunk insects by carefully soldering together gears, springs, and other watch parts. The mechanical bugs, many of which Gershenson-Gates can balance on just his pinky finger, are miniature, multi-legged creatures that each take the artist several hours to complete. Like a robotic army of creepy crawlers, the metallic mites invoke a sense of mechanical technology come to life. There's something altogether exciting, intriguing, and frightening about the collection that screams "science fiction horror film." You can hear their metallic little legs feverishly clicking as though they're scurrying across a room just by looking at them.

A GIF Of A Russian Kid Dancing Set To Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky'
13 jun 2013 19:00

Here’s what happened… Last week Cajun Boy posted a video of a sunglasses-wearing kid dancing his heart out inside a Russian disco. Then I stumbled across a GIF of it. Then I watched the GIF for five straight minutes. Then I closed the tab. Then I opened the tab back up. Then I watched it for another 10 minutes. Then I opened up my video editing software and copied and pasted it a million times, and laid the whole thing over the song “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. (Similar to the GIF loop videos I’ve made before.) Then I uploaded the video to YouTube, and I watched it 200 times over the next few days. And now I’m sharing it with you. Not to toot my own horn here, but I really think this video is a more powerful anti-depressant than anything Big Pharma will ever cook up in a lab, maybe even more powerful than dogs riding in cars. You are very welcome.

Dad Guesses Game Of Thrones Character Names With Hilarious Results
13 jun 2013 19:01

With a stroke of brilliance that deserves to be chronicled in some sort of pop culture digest, one Game of Thrones fan decided to quiz his father — who regularly watches the show with him — thirty minutes after the season three finale ended with pictures of all the different characters to see how many his dad could name. He then of course made images and shared the fun with his buddies on r/GameOfThrones. The results are — of course — glorious, and vary from nailing Jon Snow and Gilly to re-christening Bran Stark as James Stark and somehow offering up incorrect two syllable non-words for Hodor. Seriously, he missed Hodor. Twice! The whole thing is just the perfect combination of zeitgeist meets massive confusing ensemble meets dad brain meets internet good times. The question marks are a nice touch as well. I thought.

Childhood Photos Of The World's Most Brutal Dictators
28 may 2013 11:28

They are known universally as some of the world’s most hated, feared and brutal individuals. Once untainted and innocent youths, as men they evolved into dictators, despots, egomaniacs & warmongers. Together they have collectively destroyed, tormented and played key roles in the deaths of millions of individuals – either through their divisive philosophy, unrelenting fascism, promotion of racism, political propaganda design to oppress the masses & strengthen authority or their unquenchable thirst for power resulting in war. We take a look at the likes of Adolf Hilter, Joseph Stalin, Saddam Hussein & several others during their formative years. It makes for chilling viewing, little did the photographer know the apparent monster they were photographing or that they would go on to write some of the darkest chapters in recorded history
