Now we all know the Cosplay can be a lot of fun (although sometimes for all the wrong reasons) and like many kids Herbert Chavez was raised on a stable diet of comic books, TV shows and movies. But for him, one character stood tall above them all – the one and only Man Of Steel, Superman. Now aged 36, it’s safe to say that Herbert Chavez is the world’s biggest Superman fan. Period.
Obsessed Superman Fan
Like any dedicated and passion fan, he’s amassed literally hundreds of Superman posters, toys, outfits, merchandise, collectables and rare prints. But the difference between Chavez and pretty much every other Superman fan around the world is his mission to actually alter his appearance to resemble Superman as much as humanly possible.
It goes beyond wearing the red boots, ‘S’ symbol and cape. He’s gone to dramatic lengths, undergoing cosmetic surgery to shape his lips, cheeks, nose, chin, thighs and even his skin colour. It’s not some flippant obsession either, over the past decade Chavez has been transforming himself to being less Herbert, more Clarke. By day he’s actually a dress designer and by night, you’ve guessed it, he’s busily working away on his custom Superman attire.
Hero to the kids
These days he’s something of a hero to kids in his local community of Calamba (south of Manila) who have now given him the nickname of ”village superman.” So whilst Clarke Kent is consigned to the big screen and comic books, these kids have their very own living legend right on their doorstep.
