These celebrities 'cried wolf' by abusing their race card in multiple situations. Do you think they had a good reason to bring up race discrimination?
Nicki Minaj called Steven Tyler racist for saying he would have sent Bob Dylan “to the cornfield” if he was contestant. Then, during the fallout with Mariah Carey, she accused Barbara Walters of being racist when she took Mariah's side:
“Am I not good enough for you [Walters] to get my side, because I’m a little black girl that raps?”
Marlon Wayans pulled the race card right after claiming that he never pulls the race card, at an interview with AllHipHop, about why his character wasn't included in the next installment of GI Joe:
“The last one they realized the black guy [Damon's character Ripcord] was the hero of the movie. So, they said ‘You know what? We’re going to do the sequel just so we can fix that. Let’s kill the black guy’.”
When Shawty Lo's show on Oxygen got canceled, his camp released the following statement:
"So here’s the question, would you rather see 11 children struggle with mothers on welfare? Or watch a man support his children? Does it come down to the race card?
Other networks that currently showcase polygamy, promiscuity, and alcoholism, are on the air, with multiple mothers and magnitudes of children. So what’s the difference? Because Shawty Lo is black and a rapper? Yes, I said it he’s black, ( just in case you didn’t already know )."
Perhaps the show didn't cancelled because he is black, it got cancelled because Oxygen wasn't prepared to celebrate the life of a guy who failed to use the wrapper and as a result fathered 11 kids from 10 different women, potentially screwing up their lives.
Naomi Campbell apparently likes to pull the race card a lot. Back in 2002 a journalist, Sue Carroll, called Naomi a chocolate soldier which means 'a soldier who looks good in uniform but wont fight for the cause' since around 1894. Naomi misunderstood and took it as a racist slur.
On another occasion in 2008, she allegedly beat up two policemen on British Airways, for calling her a "golliwog supermodel", but since this was like her 10th public beat down people started wondering that maybe Naomi is the real problem.
Colin Powell: After serving as the Secretary of State of the republican party under President Bush, he then switched to the democratic party with the excuse that Republicans "still look down on minorities" and went on to repeat every racist comment he had ever heard while serving in the republican party. No doubt that there are some racists in the republic party, but when you happen to be one of their ex-supporters, the information looks less like it's coming from a victim of racism and more like from a snitch with no loyalty.
Star Jones pulled the race car on Obama's behalf, blaming failed fiscal cliff negotiations on racist republicans.
Katt Williams, after being arrested in Hollywood, explained his arrest as being race-provoked:
“I got stopped for being black on the gayest street in the America. “
“I came to hang with my gay friends and this is what happened. There was 8 officers, they were everywhere, I came to pick up Shug Knight. He was getting a manicure.”
“All I did was stand outside to pick him up. And suddenly it was all these officers and then they found my weed and my guns…”
“Eventually they let me go because I’m Teflon Kitty. “
There might be a fine line between actual racism and calling the race card without having any merit. Either way being called a racist without merit might be as unpleasant as actually experiencing it.
