There’s a saying that frustrated parents often use that goes “Children should be seen and not heard” usually in response to their own kids playing up. But gifted photographer Judy Gelles holds the opposite view. She asked a group of 4th grade students from India, China and the US to answer 3 simple questions, placing their answers against a backdrop of their own portraits.
Those 3 questions were:
Who do you live with?
What do you wish for?
What do you worry about?
Their candid answers vary from being funny to sombre and some just make you want to reach out with a big hug. Either way, it’s a creative and unique take on portrait photography and one that Gelles should be commended before, sometimes some of the most powerful words can come from the youngest of minds.
You can see the full extent of the series via her official portfolio or order her books here.
