WEIRD NEWS! Colorado Town May Issue Hunting Licenses For Drones (3 photo)

It’s reasonable to be concerned about drones. They’re cheap, they’re plentiful, the government uses a lot of them, and it has shown disconcerting resistance to revealing just what they’re doing with flying spy robots. So Deer Trail, a small town in Colorado, is going to take matters into its own hands: It’s drone huntin’ season! Introduced by Deer Trail resident Phillip Steel, the law is pretty straightforward. If you see a drone, blow it out of the sky and turn it in for a financial reward. The ordinance states, “The Town of Deer Trail shall issue a reward of $100 to any shooter who presents a valid hunting license and the following identifiable parts of an unmanned aerial vehicle whose markings and configuration are consistent with those used on any similar craft known to be owned or operated by the United States federal government.”

Hey, remember The Butterfly Effect? It’s nearly a decade old! We mention this not because we want to make you feel old, but because apparently a decade is long enough to reboot a movie nobody cares about. The original was essentially Somewhere In Time with the personal tragedy laid on with a trowel. Ashton Kutcher’s character wasn’t just molested, he was forced to star in kiddie porn by Eric Stoltz. He doesn’t just have an abusive father, he has a father who tries to strangle him to death before being killed by guards. It’s a dark movie but at the same time it’s kind of ridiculous, because it wants a PG-13 and frankly Ashton Kutcher just isn’t credible as a human being who’s suffered all this misfortune, and the screenwriters have no sense of the absurd; an alternate ending features the hero traveling back to his birth and aborting himself. Also there’s a scene where he wakes up with no hands which should not be funny, but is:

If you're like me, you've been killed by a Spiny on level 4 of Super Mario Bros. and thought, "f**k rescuing the Princess, I hope she dies and all the good and bad characters in this universe have to gather together to mourn her." We must break away from our regularly scheduled funny Craigslist ad post to talk about one that’s incredibly depressing. Washington-based serviceman Brandon Harker returned from a nine-month tour of Afghanistan to find out that his friend, who was trusted with looking after Harker’s dog Oakley, had given the pup away on Craigslist. According to Harker, via the Examiner, “My friend just said they got rid of him…They never gave me any other explanation. He would say, ‘I don’t know who we gave him to’ and ‘I don’t know their phone number’.” He’s taken to Craigslist to retrieve the adorable two-year-old Labrador retriever. I just recently returned from a 9 month deployment. And upon arrival back into the area I found out my yellow Labrador retriever was either given away or sold while I was gone. I was told this happened in May, but it could have happened anytime from February till June. He is good with kids and other dogs. He has a unique coat, on his face he has spots of a darker yellow (champagne) he also has spots of the same color going down his sides and legs. If anyone has any information on this and can help me please do. I am just trying to get him back to me since he was wrongfully given away or sold with out my permission while I was deployed. I will also be able to verify the dog is mine because he is micro-chipped and registered to me. Once again thank you to everyone who sees this and tries to help. If you could spread the word about this issues that would be great as well. Let’s find this man’s dog, and arrest his so-called friend for treason.

It marks the latest push by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre to locate as-yet unconvicted Third Reich war criminals. The impetus for the campaign, dubbed “Operation Last Chance”, was the Munich trial of former SS guard John Demjanjuk for war crimes at the Sobibor camp in occupied Poland. Though he died last year before his conviction was finalised, it marked a watershed in Nazi trials. In previous decades, German authorities had refused to open an investigation without concrete proof of a specific Nazi-era crime – often a difficult task given the regime’s industrial killing machine. Much has been made about the new Rolling Stone cover featuring Dzhokhar Tsarnaev looking like a badass rock star. Some people think it’s just a cheap ploy to sell magazines and others think there’s some real journalistic merit to putting him on the cover. Well, Fox News is definitely in the former category. Thursday night on The Five, Greg Gutfeld — who somehow still gets to rant on national television — had some choice words about the cover. He actually made some good points by talking about the article itself being more of a glorification piece than anything really in-depth. Then, of course, Gutfeld took it a step farther by drawing a Hitler mustache and devil horns on the cover. Sigh. In the battle between Fox News and Rolling Stone, it’s pretty clear that we will all end up losing in the end.

The Wolverine is a surprising movie in some respects. Not in terms of the plot; there’s pretty much nothing in this movie that you won’t see coming. But rather in terms of how brutal it’s willing to be, and how much it lets Hugh Jackman play to his strengths. Unfortunately, the third act throws ninjas and a giant robot at us, and nearly derails the whole thing. It’s a familiar plot, mind you; a tough guy, stuck in a foreign land, struggling with his past decisions, and discovering the means to move on and some asses to kick. It’s a sturdy form, though, and it’s perfectly suited for the strengths of its lead.

For you see, Aslan is a Muslim, so why would HE be interested in Christianity. That was an actual question. “You’re a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?” asked Lauren Green, to which Aslan replied, “Well, to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim.” “Yeah, well,” Green was thinking, “I have a Jewish friend.” (No, she doesn’t.) It only gets worse and worse the longer it goes on, culminating with Green accusing Aslan, who increasingly takes the tone of an exasperated parent explaining something obvious to their child, of never disclosing he’s a Muslim. Every single interview I have ever done on TV or in print says I’m a Muslim.” At no point does Fox News realize the irony of persecuting someone over their religion in a discussion about Jesus, and everyone is now dumber.

A few weeks ago we instituted a moratorium on Amanda Bynes posts around here. The fact that she’s obviously mentally ill — to the point that Courtney Love was doling out life advice to her — made any chronicling of her bizarre exploits feel icky. I think the note I sent out said something along the lines of, “unless she kills someone or kills herself, let’s avoid posting anything about her.” Well, she hasn’t killed anyone, including herself, but she could have last night, and for that she’s been locked away in an LA-area psych ward. Reports the Hollywood Reporter: "Amanda Bynes was placed under 5150 hold and taken to the hospital for mental evaluation on Monday night after setting a small fire outside a home in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The fire department was called around 8:45 p.m. when the 27-year-old actress, whose erratic behavior has spurred several run-ins with the law in recent months, sparked the fire in the driveway area of the single-family residence, whose inhabitants have no association or relationship with Bynes, Sergeant Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department told The Hollywood Reporter."

Oklahoma city resident 23 year old Kristina Michelle Brown was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon on her 72 year old neighbor, Elmer Morrison. He claimed the woman threatened him with a knife, and the reason for it is as bizarre as can get, and quite sick to be honest. When conversing with the police she said that the man revealed that she had sex with her cat! "Because everyone knows. I had sex with my cat and everyone knows" was her statement. But when she was confronted a little later she took back her claim and instead said that her neighbor "does not know about what she did with the cat, she is just mad at him and wants him to die." Talk about crazy. Seems like she might have been on drugs, or may be had a mental disorder. Anyhow, I hope the cat is okay.

A little 5 week old kitten was cruelly set on fire in New Jersey. He was found by some good Samaritans and brought to the Pennsylvania SPCA. The kitten was named Justin and is currently undergoing some intense care and lots of love. It's truly atrocious to see people committing stuff like this, but the little guy is doing well and his story is an inspiration.

Chandro Tomar is a 78 year old Indian grandmother, who is believed to be the world's oldest pro sharpshooter. This incredible woman raised six children and fifteen grandchildren, while participating in and winning 25 national championships across India. "As soon as I shot my first pistol I was hooked. And now I’ve shown everyone there’s no disadvantages to my age. If you’re focused you can do anything", said Chandro. She often attends a local firing range where she's never short of spectators. The club’s coach, Farooq Pathan, who set up the shooting club in 1998 with a couple of friends, said: "She was so good some of the men stopped turning up altogether to avoid being humiliated by her, a old woman. She has the ultimate skill, a steady hand and a sharp eye." This super granny is still competing and winning gold at the Veteran Shooting Championship held in Chennai. You go girl!

I have nothing against Putin, but it seems like all the pressure of being Russia's president for over a decade has taken a toll on him. He's well known for his publicity stunts, and has done everything from riding a horse, shirtless, to flying with a flock of cranes, to finding ancient Greek pottery in the Black Sea. It seems that he is desperately trying to portray a macho as well as a humble man image of himself. It's understandable that keeping himself in the public eye is important, but quite frankly the scale and frequency of his stunts borders on ridiculous. May be he's overcompensating for his aging ego? Here's what I mean.

Amy Schumer has been making the rounds to basically do the robot over the fact she had a successful first season of her show and tell everyone it’s on Hulu Plus now. And while her show is pretty funny, I’m a little conflicted about her. Whenever I think about Schumer, I think about the jokes she made about Patrice O’Neal’s diabetes during the Charlie Sheen Roast. Of course, that diabetes later killed him. Now, I don’t want to sound like I’m angry at her for making the jokes since it’s a roast and it’s fair game. But the train of thought just reminds me that Patrice O’Neal is gone and it makes me sad. It’s totally random and I can’t quite get over it. Sorry, Amy. Anyway, she was on Leno and they talked shop about crappy comedy gigs in their past. One of the stories involved performing at a hunger strike…for a terrorist organization. Take a look.
