How People Imagined The Future 100+ Years Ago

It is interesting to look, how people that lived more than hundred years ago imagined the times we now live in. I have compiled a collection of postcards created by artists in the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century on the subject of the Millennium. Many things depicted on them seem to be funny, but some ideas became a reality.

Dain Yoon is a makeup artist unlike many others. Instead of creating illusions of longer eyelashes and plumper lips, she creates reality-defying illusions that can make your mind bend. Yoon identifies herself a visual illusion artist. By using watercolors, she can create amazing illusions of lips, eyes, and the overall face, often blending herself into a scene. All of her creations are so stunning, it's hard to believe she doesn't even use photoshop!

It's no secret that our society has its flaws - dependence on technology, taxes, obesity, devaluation of workers - to name a few. A broken CD isn't much good to anyone. Unless you're Sean Avery that is. Because while most of us would just throw them in the trash, the South Africa-born, Australia-based artist turns them into various dazzling animal sculptures. He makes them by gluing CD shards to wire mesh frames shaped like different animals, and as you can see from his iridescent animal kingdom, there seems to be no limit to the types of creatures he can create.

Some of them take up to 780 hours to complete, and it’s easy to see why when you look at the artist’s amazingly lifelike creations. He draws them using a combination of charcoal and graphite and the subjects are often illuminated with a single source of light.
