17 apr 2020 14:17

Instead of writing or illustrating a journal to record his excursions, Sydney-based artist Jake Henzler knits colorful memories of urban landscapes into huge pieces of art. The artist goes by the name of “‘Boy Knits World”’ on Instagram and crafts quilt-like panels of urban spaces that he comes across whilst traveling.

Regarded by the world as one of the greatest empires to ever exist, the Roman Empire had many accomplishments. And Roman architecture is definitely one of them. The living testament to its glory are the constructions that still stand to this day, despite around 2000 years of fire, war, wear and scavenging people. Yet while we see what is left in our day, it is always fascinating to see what the iconic structures looked like back in their glorious days.

One brave raccoon performed a Mission: Impossible style move that left a crowd of concerned onlookers in awe. Shocking video shows a raccoon scaling a New Jersey building many stories high. The animal seems appears to have reached unexpected heights, unclear of how to get down. As the crowd of bystanders record and gawk at the stranded raccoon, it unexpectedly leaps and makes a smooth landing.

10 sep 2018 12:50

Two years ago, I went to Japan to photograph derelict buildings around the country. From love hotels to theme parks or decayed houses, I explored another part of this incredible country. It’s a good job that these vertical forests in Nanjing, China are going to produce 132 pounds (60kg) of oxygen every day, because they’ll literally take your breath away when you see them.

How can one fight the greyness and blandness of everyday life? With mad painting skills, apparently. Boris Chernichenko, who comes from the Russian city of Astrakhan, smote banality by decorating the stairwell in his apartment building. The 14 Ugliest Buildings In The World
18 sep 2015 12:58

The Carbuncle Cup, awarded to “the ugliest building in the United Kingdom completed in the last 12 months,” was doled out to the hapless recipient this year. Thankfully the Cup is bestowed upon an inanimate building so no one’s feelings are hurt; well, except the architect’s. The “victor” of 2015 was a building dubbed by Londoners as “The Walkie-Talkie” – real name 20 Fenchurch. The building has been known to burst nearby objects into flames, thanks to a concave face and a sky garden that...

10 Buildings That Look Like Human Body Parts
16 sep 2015 13:00

With so many nations exploding economically over the last two or three decades, people keep running out of ideas for what to build. Like every profession, there are two types of architects. Those that play it safe and re-hash the same old design with a small twist, and those creative geniuses that take the chances required to build something fresh and magnificent. Unfortunately the geniuses sometimes get too creative, providing internet fodder for the rest of us that can sit back and mock...

#1 The Tree Was There First
31 jul 2015 11:22

Deforestation has a significant environmental impact. Many studies suggest that is a contributor to global warming; it impacts the water cycle by reducing the amount of water in the soil and air; it contributes to soil loss; and it results in a decline in biodiversity. We can either work with nature, or work against it. On this spectrum, these architects have decided to find a middle ground: instead of chopping down trees and building their houses, the trees are incorporated as a part of the...

Surreal Floating Room Sculptures by Leandro Erlich
02 sep 2013 11:42

Like a scene from a fantasy movie, a dilapidated room that appears to have been literally ripped out of a building remains suspended in mid air above Nantes, France. Its walls were torn apart, revealing bricks below the plaster, and wood floors reveal the joists inside. The floating room is accessible via a ladder. The gravity defying surreal installation is the work of Argentinean artist Leandro Erlich. The large-scale piece, called “Monte-meubles – L’ultime déménagement” (literally - The Furniture Lift – The Ultimate Moving Out), was created for the biannual Le Voyage a Nantes, an art festival which turns the entire French city into an art gallery.
