There are Christmas traditions, family traditions, and Christmas family traditions. From the mid-eighties all the way to 2009, Pat Confalone filmed his kids coming down the stairs on Christmas morning. Later, his son Nick edited the heartwarming videos together.

Sometimes we need a major life-changing event to really put things into perspective. As the classic song goes: “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” What bigger life-changing event is there than having a child? Weng Chen, the genius behind The Messycow Comics, has created a series of ‘before and after kids’ comics that nails this change in perspective perfectly, and will leave all you parents out there nodding your heads in agreement!

Jani Ylinampa is a nature photographer based in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland. He‘s a real master of capturing the dancing Northern Lights, breathtaking sunsets, beautiful forests, lakes and other wonders of nature, and he‘s been doing it for almost 15 years. One of those magical objects that caught Ylinampa‘s eye was a lovely Kotisaari island in Rovaniemi, that used to be a traditional stronghold of the Lumberjacks in Kemijoki.

Ah, the daily grind. Love it or hate it, it's an unavoidable part of life for most of us - especially New Yorkers. Danish photographer Peter Funch spent nearly 10 years stationed outside of Grand Central Station shooting the morning commuters rushing by, and ended up capturing more than just yawns and iced coffees when it was said and done.

The world has evolved so rapidly over the last 100 years that it's difficult to imagine just how much things have changed during that time. Many of the world's most famous cities - like Kuala Lumpur for example, or Hong Kong - bare little resemblance to their earlier selves, and cities such as Dubai didn't even exist at all until fairly recently.

It’s interesting to see what humans are able to change and what humans are utterly incapable of changing. On one hand, a city may rise out of nowhere in just a matter of a decade or two, showing how powerful China’s economy has become, and how advanced engineering has enabled us to build so rapidly. At the same time, the profile of the mountains and rivers don’t budge, a constant reminder that we are still powerless compared to Mother Nature.

In 2012, Target celebrated the 50th anniversary of the launch of its first store and shared several images of what the chain store looked like in those early days. A discounted offshoot of the long-running Dayton’s department store, the Dayton family opened their very first Target store in 1962 in Roseville, Minnesota and from the get-go used their now iconic red bullseye logo. By the end of the 1960s, the company had opened 17 stores into Colorado, Missouri and Texas, and boasted sales over $100 million. That Roseville location still exists, though the store was completely rebuilt in 2005 and is now the prototype for all future Target stores. Target’s behind-the-scenes blog A Bullseye View has more of their story and additional images from their surprisingly long history.

From these pictures it seems that commuting in Tokyo has not changed that much since the ‘60s. Here’s a snap from 1972, during a Tokyo railway strike, which crowded trains so much, some had to exit through windows. Weeee!
