Water In Venice Canals Goes Crystal Clear After Coronavirus Lockdown
18 mar 2020 19:15

Where pessimists see a half-empty glass, optimists come along to show that it’s actually half-full. Same goes for the ongoing chaos of the coronavirus—while some are hoarding away toilet paper like there’s no tomorrow, there are people who see positive outcomes even in a situation as dire as this. One of these positive outcomes is that pollution has dropped down dramatically following the lockdown of Italy.

20 dec 2019 15:40

While there are so many people who find penguins absolutely adorable, given the right circumstances, few of us would dare to keep them as pets. However, once the opportunity arose, this Japanese family didn’t shy away from keeping one in their home, making it probably one of the most peculiar pets people have ever seen. In fact, it was so rare back in the day, that journalists from around the world were trying to get in touch with the family.

Fish Trapped Inside A Jellyfish Captured In A One In A Million Shot
08 jun 2016 10:01

The picture was taken by Australian photographer Tim Samuel, who uploaded the snap to his Instagram account last December. Tim saw the flummoxed fish while out free diving in Byron Bay with a friend. Despite its obvious disadvantage, the fish was still able to control the movements of the equally hapless jellyfish. Unsurprisingly, Sam says he’s never seen anything quite like this during his five years as a photographer.

Exocoetidae: The Fish That Flies
07 sep 2013 15:05

Exocoetidae, commonly called Flying Fish, is a family of fishes aptly named for their ability to emerge out of the water and glide for long distances with their outstretched pectoral fins. Their streamlined torpedo shape helps them gather enough underwater speed to break the surface, and their large, wing-like fins get them airborne. Once in the air, these fishes can glide over considerable distances. Their flights are typically around 50 meters, but some fishes have been recorded to fly up to 200 meters or more. Some species of flying fish have enlarged pelvic fins as well as enlarged pectoral fins, which allows them to fly further than two winged gliders (up to 400 meters), and have far greater maneuverability. These fishes are known as four-winged flying fish.

Fish Delivery
15 aug 2013 12:56

Fish being delivered to a pet store. The fish is placed in small baggies but the baggies each had their own compartment in a styrofoam insert that fit in the box and contain several unchilled ice packs that help to maintain a good temperature within the box. The blue color is from a combination of a light tranquilizer, stress coat, and a medication to help prevent the fish from getting sick.

These Photos Look Kinda Fishy
14 aug 2013 12:58

What do most people do with fish they bring home from the market? If you’re normal you’d probably gut it and eat. (Actually if you’re really normal you buy that stuff pre-cut so you don’t ever have to look at their cold dead eyes staring back at you.) If you’re… not so normal like Paris based artist Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard, you might make a weird-ass photo series of fish working on assembly lines or in laboratories. The series is called “Les Temps Modernes” (Modern Times in English) probably because in these modern times no one’s going to question your sanity for doing something like dressing up little fishies and taking pictures of them.
