27 sep 2018 10:41

In July, Italian artist Massimo Listri released a book of photographs that featured the most beautiful libraries from around the world. The chosen institutions, revered for their historical value, architectural relevance and preciousness of the books they keep, are standalone works of art. For those lucky enough to visit these design marvels, spending a whole day at the library doesn't sound so bad!

Book-Loving Guy Turns His Massive Library Into Art And His 120k Instagram Followers Approve
26 jul 2018 09:44

The best books can spark our imagination and in the case of James Trevino, even our creativity. The 24-year-old has made a name for himself by arranging his book collection to depict elaborate literary scenes. A self-proclaimed 'bookstagrammer', Trevino has managed to pull in 120k Instagram followers for his ornate creations (in addition to being pretty easy on the eyes himself). He said the idea to start creating the pieces "just sort of happened."

A Photoshoot In A Real-Life Disney Library – Admont Abbey
03 feb 2015 14:59

The world gasped in 1991 when the Beast first showed Belle his library in the classic Disney princess film. The Von Wong team pretty much had the same reaction walking through the alabaster doors of Admont Abbey – the oldest monastic library in the world very and reminiscent of Belle’s library. With pristine marble flooring, vibrant ceiling murals and ornate book shelves, it is the home to over 70,000 books and manuscripts on display.

Hidden 19th Century Fore-Edge Paintings Found on the Pages of a Book
03 sep 2013 10:17

While most of us know that some of the greatest treasures can be found in books, turns out that sometimes they also appear on the fore-edges of the pages. Recently Colleen Theisen shared a gif she made, showing an amazing example of fore-edge painting on the side of the book from 1873. The painting was found on the edge of Robert Mudie’s book Autumn at the Special Collections & University Archives at the University of Iowa. Fore-edge painting dates back to 1650′s, and is a technique when a picture is drawn on the edge of the book pages. Sometimes the image can be seen when the book is closed, sometimes the pages have to be slightly fanned out.

If the Beastie Boys ‘Sabotage’ video was set in a library
22 aug 2013 11:38

From Chicago-based comics Mike Ferbrache and Duane Freeman comes a nonsensical rehash of the Beastie Boys’s 1994 classic video, “Sabotage,” only this time Cochese and Bunny are replaced with middle-aged librarians named “Story Time” and “The Techie.” I honestly don’t get it and don’t care. I’d watch (and post) a remake of “Ill Communication” track #6 in any setting. Shit never gets old.
