THE 10 GREATEST SUMMER MOVIES
02 jul 2014 10:54

ADVENTURELAND
The summer after you graduate from college can be tough. You're in an awkward transition phase and living at home isn't helping one bit. James Brennan, brilliantly played with just the right amount of awkwardness by Jesse Eisenberg, is stuck in his hometown for the summer and gets a job at an amusement park, which becomes an unexpectedly great decision. A warm and funny coming of age movie that will strike a chord with anyone post-21.

He’s played some of Hollywood’s most unique (and often challenging) roles. From the neurotic, villainous & psychopathic (The Shining, The Witches Of Eastwick, Batman, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) to the grumpy and downtrodden (The Bucket List, About Schimidt) and everything in between – Jack Nicholson is a true legend of the screen.

Jason Statham and James Franco have teamed up for a new thriller called Homefront, which is based on the best-selling novel by Chuck Logan. Sylvester Stallone wrote the script. We have our first look at the two actors today in a few photos that were released on USA Today. The story follows a DEA agent who moves to a small town after he's finished with his life fighting crime. As you might expect, once he moves to the small town he ends up fighting crime again. Director Gary Fleder talked about the film a little, explaining,

New Funny Clip from CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2
11 sep 2013 17:49

Sony Pictures Animation has released a new funny clip for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2! The clip features the entertaining introduction of a new character named Barry, the talking strawberry. The first movie was surprisingly hilarious. I love the wackiness of the concept, and the sequel should end up being just as fun. The sequel was directed by Cody Cameron (story artist on Shrek, Surf’s Up, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and Kris Pearn (head of story on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and stars the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, and Kristen Schaal. It's set to be released on September 27th, 2013. Enjoy the clip!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 - Plot Details Emerge, Release Date Moves
11 sep 2013 17:47

Disney has moved the release date of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales from the summer of 2015 to the summer of 2016. The reason for the delay is to make sure that the script right. It's currently being written by Jeff Nathanson, and it's being directed by the amazingly talented directors of Kon-Tiki, Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg. Thanks to Bleeding Cool, we also have a few possible plot details from the fifth installment of the franchise. The script is still in progress, so some of the details revealed are subject to change. Here's the site's description of what they know.

JJ Abrams’ Mysterious Trailers Are For A Book
11 sep 2013 17:41

Between Star Wars: Episode VII, the Star Trek movie franchise and even the video game that he’s working on with Valve, as well as his possible involvement in the production of Portal and Half-Life movies, it’s very easy to become confused when it comes to JJ Abrams news. That’s why Abrams didn’t help anything last month when he also released a mysterious trailer simply entitled, “Stranger.” And while I was under the impression that it was for a movie about a guy who sits on his right hand, Abrams cleared everything up with a new trailer on Monday that explains that this is all about the book “S.” which Abrams helped developed and was written by Doug Dorst. Aw, a book? But that means reading.

The Baseball Card Vandals Made Football Cards For The NFL Season
11 sep 2013 17:38

Earlier this year, during my morning routine of looking for hilarious pictures and GIFs in these here cat tubes, I came across a Tumblr page that instantly became my favorite thing of 2013. That page, of course, is Baseball Card Vandals, which is still going strong, pumping out the most absurdly humorous desecrations of “worthless cards” on all the interwebs. But like any good meme, even the simplest alteration can breathe some fresh air into these lungs, and that happened on Sunday with the introduction of some new football cards in honor of the start of the 2013 NFL season. I don’t care how old I am, whether I’m living in an old folks home or accepting my nomination to be the next pope, or if the world is on the brink of a nuclear Armageddon at the hands of our cyborg cockroach overlords – if I ever don’t find the very last card in this gallery hilarious, I’m going to exile myself to the moon. Check out the rest of the football cards and the latest baseball cards at Baseball Card Vandals, follow them on Tumblr and Twitter, and check out their new shop as well.

Trailer for Escape from Tomorrow, A Film Shot Illegally Inside Disney
11 sep 2013 17:36

I’ve often thought Disneyland seems like a great place for terrifying acid trip, and that was only on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. I’ve never been to DisneyWorld, but the fact that it’s in Florida makes me feel confident in assuming that it’s a hall of horrors. That Disney parks are creepy seems to have been the inspiration for Randy Moore’s Escape from Tomorrow, a “surrealistic, genre-defying” thriller shot guerrilla-style inside Disneyland and Disneyworld. It’s set to hit theaters and VOD on October 11th, assuming Disney’s lawyers don’t have Moore sent to Mouschwitz before then. Disney is the nefarious monolith that gave us Miley Cyrus and history’s wussiest generation of American actors, I wouldn’t put anything past them. Incidentally, the Disney equivalent of the Aryan ideal is Zac Efron.

So what better place for gifted photographer Franck Bohbot to create his series ‘Theaters’. In it he takes you deep inside some of the most majestic and opulent theatres and galleries in Paris, to admire their beautiful designs and architecture. It’s a sight few if any get to see. Normally each theatre is awash with the movement & endless chatter of hundreds of patrons or plunged into total darkness during a performance. Frank’s imagines, are as beautiful as they are unique – it’s not everyday you have an entire Parisian theatre all to yourself.

Scientists Prove Video Games Actually Keep Your Mind Sharp
05 sep 2013 10:36

According to a new study conducted by cognitive scientists at the University of California, your mom was totally wrong about the whole “video games rot your brain” thing. In fact, it would probably do her some good to pick up a controller herself. And it’s not just games that make iffy-sounding claims about “training your brain” that are beneficial — this latest study has found that pretty much any game that requires a lot of multitasking can make a brain think younger… Basically, the scientists at UC created their own simple video game in which you have to drive a car while paying attention to certain signs that pop up on screen. Initially younger players in their 20s did better than players in their 70s or 80s, but with a bit of training the codgers became just as good at the game as the kids. In fact, most actually became better at the game than your average 20-year-old playing it for the first time. Even more interesting, these old people continued to “think young” and function at a higher cognitive level even after the game was shut off. The effects of mastering the game also lasted for a long time — up to six months. Oh, and video games aren’t just good for dusty old-person brains either. Another study has shown that multitasking-heavy video games can also help young people ignore distractions and learn. So wait, a game where you drive a car while also paying attention to roadside distractions improves brain function? Roadside distractions like oh, I dunno, screaming pedestrians, cops and health-restoring hookers? Well, I don’t see any way around it — now that we have this new information it would be a crime against brains to not install Grand Theft Auto V in every old folks home and school in America. Thank You NY Times! I knew there was a reason to my paying a monthly subscription to you! (And if you haven't done it yet, 'git um dun sunny!) via The New York Times

This Cinematic Trailer for DEAD RISING 3 Is Badass!
19 aug 2013 19:08

I love zombie video games, and the Dead Rising franchise has always been fun. It's not my favorite, but they've still managed to entertain me! Microsoft studios has released an awesome new trailer for their next game in the series, Dead Rising 3! This thing is badass, and I hope this third one ends up being the best in the franchise! This trailer has definitely sold me on it. Here's the synopsis: Set 10 years after the events of Fortune City in Dead Rising 2, players are introduced to Nick Ramos, a young mechanic with a strange tattoo and a mysterious past, who must find a way to escape a city full of zombies before an impending military strike wipes the city of Los Perdidos, California, and everyone in it, off the map. Nick can't do it alone – he must join up with other survivors to stay alive. They must fight their way out before it's too late. The game will be released exclusively on the XBox One in November of 2013.

Akira Kurosawa
18 aug 2013 23:21

With the pending release of the awesome looking 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves I figured that I'd mention a man who has influenced numerous works and helped greatly to popularize the Samurai genre and without which we wouldn't have been able to enjoy this upcoming samurai movie or many others for that matter. The name of that man is none other than the Great Akira Kurosawa, I would give you a rundown of all the things that he has influenced but there are too many different movies, actors, directors, writers and otherwise for me list or even to care to list. What I would like to point out is that he is someone that has existed in the background of our movie culture since the 1940s and has influenced so many things, like some the most famous and popular westerns; A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, all based off of the style of his films and off of his character from the movie Yojimbo. Not to mention one of the most popular and well regarded movies of all time the Seven Samurai. People don't give Kurosawa is fare due and I hope that this post does something to ameliorate that.
