Cross-Stitch Street Art In Spain by Raquel Rodrigo
Gingerina
21 sep 2016 11:26

We’d like to introduce you to Raquel Rodrigo, a Spanish artist and set designer who is also adding her own colorful touch to Spain’s streets by turning them into beautiful floral cross-stitch installations. The Valencia-born artist makes her pieces by wrapping thick rolls of string around wire mesh. She prepares them in advance and then unrolls them at her chosen location to bring a dash of color and creativity to the surrounding area.

One of the biggest satisfactions of creating my art comes through the actions I make on the streets. When I work on the streets one of my aims is to reach as many levels of society as possible, not only to those who are art sensitive. The streets belong to everybody, specially to those who live it more intensely. I have just came back from my first trip through Asia. It’s been a really tough, exciting and enriching experience. For this tour I wanted to make interventions that tackle the...

Okudart aka Oscar San Miguel Erice has been based in Madrid since 2000. His works, which he classifies as Pop Surrealism, features geometric shapes on multicolored buildings and blends gray bodies with organic forms. According to his website, "The works often raise contradictions about existentialism, the universe, the infinite, the meaning of life, the false freedom of capitalism, and show a clear conflict between modernity and our roots."

Colorful Crochet Covers Three Giant Dachshund Heads

These bizarre, giant dog heads wearing chef hats were part of an interactive public art event that recently took place in the Bay area of California. The plastic dachshund sculptures formerly served as the mascots for the Doggie Diner, which closed in 1986 in San Francisco. Just recently, Polish artist Olek was invited to cover the strange figures with her signature crochet designs.

You’re probably familiar with the phrase “One man’s trash is another man’s gold” and there’s few better examples of that than the work of visual artist Francisco de Pajaro. Much like Clet Abraham who has fun hijacking Europe’s street signs, Francisco likes to bring a bit of life, vitality and humour to our sterile urban environments. In a recently interview with James Buxton of Global Street Art he stated that:

If you're looking for a little something to brighten up your day, come check out the cleverly placed street art by OakOak. The French street artist sees the city as his playground as he finds everything from stair rails and street lights to random markings on a wall to become a part of his clever creations. While at times he'll feature pop-culture characters like King Kong or Calvin and Hobbes, for the most part his whimsical works take on the form of animals found in some hilariously...
