30 Apocalyptic Pics From The ‘Wasteland Weekend’ Where Costumes Are Mandatory

About 4,000 people have flooded California's Mojave Desert for the annual post-apocalyptic festival called Wasteland Weekend, and the pics looks out of this world. The festival, which was inspired by the Mad Max film series, is unlike most desert parties because it requires all attendees to be in costume. Yes, even staff members and journalists. The idea is to create a full-immersion effect, making everyone feel like they’re inside a Mad Max universe.

Japanese Continue The Tradition Of Rice Harvest Season By Creating Gigantic Straw Sculptures

Autumn is a rice harvest season in Japan. Every year, farmers make sure that the leftover rice straw, known as “wara”, does not go to waste. From feeding the cattle to improving the soil, the straw finds its purpose. In particular, Niigata province has a very creative way of using these leftover rice husks by hosting an annual event called “Wara Art Festival”.

Sydney’s Amazing Festival Of Lights

My name is Lauren Bath and I am a full time instagrammer working full time in the tourism industry. I’ve just flown home after a whirlwind 5 nights photographing Sydney’s annual Vivid festival of lights. The entire city is transformed into a wonderland of light, fun and creativity, even the bars come on board with themed cocktails! It’s so easy to be inspired over Vivid and the photography comes so easy to me every year. I create images because I love to share my passion for travel.

Photos from AfricaBurn 2013

AfrikaBurn is an annual event held in the deserts of the Tankwa Karoo in South Africa that invites artists to display their work and then eventually light it up in a blaze of glory, in true Burning Man fashion. The regional event, which most recently hosted approximately 6,500 people, follows the same eleven guiding principles as Nevada's famed Burning Man festival, encouraging "communal effort, decommodification and total expression of the self."

Following the basic guidelines, the festival's 2013 Archetypes theme welcomed thousands of visitors and participants with some truly incredible installations. One of the most prominent figures included artist Daniel Popper's massive, 9-meter-high sculpture of a man with outstretched arms. The three-story structure was fitted with custom LED lights with seventeen different simulations programmed by Justin Eastman. Other structures ranged from abstract pieces of land art to illuminated pathways.
