Botanical Pressed Flower Jewelry That Is Made From Real Flowers

My interest in handcrafting original and creative botanical jewelry is founded on my love of the fine arts and the desire to create items that exude beauty. I use materials that reflect the elements of beauty around us; primarily flowers and flower petals, often offset by fine papers or original digital and hand drawn images. I collect my botanicals from a wide range of places including my home garden and trips abroad.

If you’ve ever gotten tattooed, you’ll know that most artist begin with a black outline. But this isn’t the case at Aro Tattoo, the Korean tattoo parlor that employs tattooist_silo. Silo uses soft colors devoid of black outlines to give the impression of a watercolor painting.

“Skeleton Flowers” Become Transparent When It Rains

Say hello to the Skeleton Flower, a white woodland blossom whose petals turn crystal clear when they make contact with water. Diphelleia grayi, the scientific name of the Skeleton Flower, can be found in only three parts of the world. The plant grows on moist, wooded mountainsides in colder regions of Japan, China and the Appalachian Mountains in the United States, and is instantly recognizable by its large, umbrella-like leaves.

Flower Desserts From Japan Are Too Pretty To Eat

Beautiful flowers suspended in gelatin make Tokyo based Havaro’s Bavarian cream desserts exceptional. Sold only in Ichibangai shopping area in Tokyo Station, these treats contain real flower petals and sell for a little over $2 apiece. They are difficult to make, and the shop often sells out.

Flotsam: Flower Portraits Captured Underwater

“Flotsam//waterplants” is a series that captures the complex natural beauty and movement of flowers and plants when exposed to the elements of moving water, in particular the subtlety in their structure, texture and form. Constantly drawn back to using plants and flowers in my work, I wanted to strip back and simplify from my previous work and let the flowers speak for themselves, as though I am taking their portraits. The added element of water was initially a way to highlight the natural forms, colors and textures.

Bloemencorso Zundert Flower Parade 2013

Bloemencorso Zundert is the biggest event of the year for the small town of Zundert, the Netherlands, and incidentally, the largest flower parade in the world. People look forward to it for months, and in summer they spend weeks and weeks preparing for it. Huge floats are made of wire, cardboard and papier-mâché and entirely covered in dahlias in intricate designs. The dahlias for grown specifically for the parade, and thousands of them are required just to cover one float. The floats are made by twenty different hamlets and each of them consists of hundreds of builders, aged 1 to 100, who are all equally crazy about the bloemencorso. The older members of the hamlet are often responsible for planting and growing the dahlias, while the younger ones build the float in large temporary tents that are built exclusively for the event.
