3D-Printed Classical Paintings Will Let The Blind “See” Famous Art For The First Time

The Unseen Art project, which is being run by Helsinki-based designer Marc Dillon, is using 3D printing to give blind people the opportunity to experience classical art that many sighted people might take for granted.

Dave Pollot is a painter in the US who brings new life to old and forgotten thrift store paintings by adding pop culture characters. He uses these old paintings to combine his interest in painting with his love for pop culture.

Auto Mechanics Hilariously Recreate Renaissance Paintings

US-based photographer Freddy Fabris had always wanted to pay homage to the Renaissance masters with his photos in some way, but he wasn’t sure how until he stumbled upon an auto-mechanic shop in the Midwest. This led to a brilliant series of portraits with auto mechanics reenacting famous Renaissance paintings.

Artist Plants 1.2-Acre Field To Recreate Van Gogh’s 1889 Painting ‘Olive Trees’

64-year-old artist Stan Herd transformed a field on the Eagan, Minnesota, Thomson Reuters campus into Van Gogh’s 1889 Painting “Olive Trees.” Herd’s first ‘earthwork’ was created in 1981; this latest project took six months, covers 1.2-acres, and involved weeks of mowing, digging, and planting. It was sponsored by the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and can be seen from the air near the Minneapolis airport.

I Recreate Famous Paintings On Cakes

I am Maria A. Aristidou, best known for creating art with coffee, now introducing a new project: Art on Cakes. I made these cakes for a local Patisserie Vienna Boutique – Cake Gallery in Larnaka, Cyprus. The Cakes are all made with Vienna Boutique’s famously know chocolate recipe covered in sugar paste then decorated with edible paints. Each cake painting takes approximately 6-10 hours depending on the size and design.

Splashed Watercolor Paintings By Tilen Ti

Watercolor paints have a fantastic way of capturing vital energy and ghostly shades of color that no other medium can, and Tilen Ti, an artist in Singapore, has become an expert at using watercolor paints to their fullest potential. The animals in his vibrantly colorful works seem to come to life on the page.

Barbies Invade Classic Paintings To Bring Women Back Into Art History

These hand-painted Barbie dolls arranged to recreate famous paintings are the work of Catherine Théry. Their goal is to raise questions about beauty, intelligence, and women’s place in society – both then and now. In almost every painting, the Barbies have replaced the men in the originals. These barbies were recently exhibited at a gallery called Teodora in Paris under the title “Not the ones you think.”

Coffee Leaf Paintings Created With Morning Coffee Leftovers

Coffee painting is becoming more and more common, but Indonesian artist Ghidaq al-Nizar has taken a new approach by painting his coffee watercolors on leaves and by using coffee grounds in his compositions. Al-Nizar calls his art #zerowastecoffee because he usually paints it with what’s left of his morning coffee, making sure that none of it, not even the coffee grinds, goes to waste. He also creates latte foam art.

Watercolor And Ink Paintings Of Animals

I am Norvile Dovidonyte, an artist from Lithuania. I work primarily with watercolors and ink. I can’t imagine my day without a cup of coffee and strange, beautiful things, which inspire me to create playful characters. I’m inspired by all kinds of things: people, nature, daily life, fairy tales, childhood memories and children’s books! Watercolors are my medium of choice and I enjoy working with it. The colors always blend in fresh and surprising ways, which I love.

Shadows And Mist: I Draw Mystical Creatures With Graphite

For its way to reveal the texture of the paper, as well as the material on itself, the graphite is the ideal medium to achieve the atmosphere I want to bring out in my artworks. It allows a full and obvious light and shadows play. It’s a restless backward and forward movement between light and shadows, one existing only in relation to the other. The merging blacks and grays offer countless landscapes, discreet but real, awaiting for one’s imagination to get into. My inspirations find their origins in nordic and celtic mythology, as the symbols they carry. I’m fascinated by the omnipresence of this savage Nature, full of ageless creatures playing by unknown laws to us. These forests, these sanctuaries, made out ancient trees endowing knotted roots and branches, are talking about old times.
