		Artist Mariam Paré was just beginning her creative career as a 20-year-old art student in 1996, when she was shot in the spine and left paralyzed from the neck down. Despite the dire circumstances and limitations she was forced to accept, Paré found a way to continue her artistic path. While in therapy, she learned to write her name with a pen in her mouth and eventually that skill led to maintaining control over a paintbrush.
