French artist Bernard Pras is widely known for his unbelievable found-object installations. In anamorphic artworks like these, he hides his images in piles of what seems to be plain junk. They can only be seen through a particular device or just from a right angle.

Artist Uses A Bicycle Tire To Paint Portraits Of International Landmar

Artist and cycling enthusiast Thomas Yang has developed a series of art prints for his ongoing 100copies project that not only take inspiration from his passion for bike riding but are actually created with the tire of a bicycle. The Singapore-based creative director explores the unconventional use of a tire as his paintbrush as he dips it in ink and carefully rolls the textured wheel over his canvas. Yang has used the tracks to create brilliantly textured illustrations of four of the world's most iconic monuments—New York's Empire State Building, Paris's Eiffel Tower, London's Tower Bridge, and Beijing's Forbidden City.

These Incredible Portraits Weren't Captured With A Camera

Monica Lee is not a photographer, which you will probably find hard to believe when you look at her work. Instead of a capturing her subjects in a series of snaps, she uses pencil and paper to etch out every detail. The artist uploads these incredible sketches inspired by real life to her Facebook and Instagram. Her focus on the minute aspects of our world, things our eyes even blur out when they're right in front of us, is breathtaking. Looking into the eyes of these graphite illustrations almost feels too intimate, but you also can't look away.

Portraits Out Of Packing Tape By Mark Khaisman

Born in 1958 in Kiev, Ukraine, artist Mark Khaisman studied Art and Architecture at the Moscow Architectural Institute in Russia. Now living in Philadelphia, USA, Khaisman uses rolls of brown packaging tape to create incredible works of art. Mark characterizes his work as ‘pictorial illusions formed by light and shadow’. The three key elements are: translucent packing tape, clear acrylic or film panels, and light. By superimposing layers of packaging tape Mark can ‘play on degrees of opacity that produces transparencies highlighted by the color, shading, and embossment’.

Glass Portraits Are Sliced Incredibly Like a Loaf of Bread

Self-taught, California-based artist Loren Stump makes a variety of beautiful glass works, but he is best known for his incredible skill at murrine (also known as murrina or murrini), a 4,000-year-old Mideast technique where colored patterns or images made in a glass cane are revealed when cut in cross-sections. Murrine are designed by layering different colors of molten glass around a core, then heating and stretching it into a rod. When cool, the rod is sliced like a loaf of bread, revealing the same elaborate details in each piece.

With over 40 years of experience, Stump has perfected his murrine technique to the point where he can now layer amazingly detailed paintings in glass, manipulating two-dimensional murrine slices into three-dimensional forms. His most complex work to date is a unique interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's painting Virgin on the Rocks. Stump used hundreds of glass rods to create each detail, building the portrait one component at a time. The result is a stunning glass masterpiece that sold for $5,000 per slice.

Stunning Underwater Shipwreck Portraits Taken Off the Shores of Bali

Montreal-based photographer Benjamin Von Wong, who wowed us with his shockingly creative photos of a man on fire, is no stranger to epic concepts and photo shoots. His most recent adventure may have been one of his most ambitious yet: a large-scale shoot involving two models, seven divers, and an underwater shipwreck off the shores of Bali. The result is a series of breathtaking images depicting ethereal models exploring the sunken ruins of the 50-year-old shipwreck, their hair and gowns flowing gracefully in the currents of the ocean, as elegant and mysterious as sea nymphs or ancient goddesses.

Hyperrealistic Tattoo Portraits of Pop Culture Characters

According to a recent Newsweek article, lately there's been a dramatic rise in the tattoo genre realism. No longer relegated to sculpture or painting, realism has taken over the tattoo world. In an attempt to depict people and things as accurately as possible, tattoo artists like Nikko Hurtado, Stefano Alcantara, and Paul Acker have been creating incredibly detailed portraits that look like they could be photographs.

Tattoos have come a long way since since the 1960s when tattooing was illegal or restricted in certain states. In fact, in 2012, a sizable amount of people got "tatted up" - about 36 percent of people 18 to 25 and 38 percent of people between 30 and 39. As an art movement, tattooing has seen a dramatic advancement due to better pigments, needle guns and whole new generation of artists eager to learn the craft.

Born in the San Fernando Valley, Nikko Hurtado is known for his hyperrealistic tattoo portraits of pop culture characters. Just a year after tattooing, Nikko created a Batman color portrait tattoo that would forever change his career. It was his first color portrait he had ever created and it ended up winning first place in the Pomona Tattoo Portrait Contest. He's since starred in numerous TV shows such as LA Ink, Tattoo Wars, and Spike TV’s Ink Master and he's tattooed such celebrities as Drake, Jesse James and Kat Von D. Here's a collection of some of his work.

Extraordinary Conceptual Portraits by Christine Muraton

French photographer Christine Muraton has an extraordinary talent for capturing hauntingly stunning photographs that convey intriguing stories. Inspired by literature, classical studies, philosophy, and psychology, the photographer creates highly atmospheric portraits that are often visually and conceptually ambiguous. Figures are blurred, obscured, or have their backs turned to the viewer, concealing identities by never fully revealing their faces. Subjects blend into unreal landscapes, raising further questions of who they are and what they're doing in such fantastic places.

Portraits of a Militia in Central African Republic

Anti-balaka militia originally sprang up to protect the Christian population of the Central African Republic, but now stand accused of human rights abuses themselves. Last month, the African Union branded militia targeting Muslims in Central African Republic as “terrorists” and said they would be treated as enemy combatants, a day after killing a Congolese peacekeeper and amid deepening international frustration at continuing violence in the impoverished and landlocked country.

Wonderfully Witty Dog Portraits by Ron Schmidt

Though we've seen a lot of dog portraits in our time these might just take the cake as the most creative ever.

Ron Schmidt is the person behind the company Loose Leashes, an online shop where he sells funny prints of our furry friends in wonderfully witty scenarios. Dog person or not, you can't help but fall in love with these photos.

As he told Dogster, “All the images represent the freedom that a dog would have without someone holding its leash. These are the things dogs would do if no one was around and they had absolute freedom.”

Though his past experience is in fashion and celebrity photography, Schmidt found his true calling by accident. After branching out on his own to pursue commercial photography, he found his niche when, one day, he decided to design a creative Christmas card for his family, friends and clients. Featuring his yellow lab Indy, the card didn't just show her pose in a traditional way, he had her carry a tree on her back. "It was a fun, conceptual image that was a big hit with everyone who saw it. Since I love dogs and photography, this worked out really well.”

LEGO Pop-Culture Portraits by Chris McVeigh

on small card stock, LEGO builder Chris McVeigh (aka Powerpig) decided to create his own LEGO versions. That is, he would take pop-culture characters we all know and love and create small portraits of them using only LEGO bricks.

After making just one, his fans gave him such positive feedback that he knew he was onto something. As he tells us, "I quickly put together one of Wolverine and posted it on Instagram and Facebook. I was blown away by the response, and so I challenged myself to do more."
