A wonderful toy company called Budsies will take any child's doodles and turn it into a real-life toy for him/her. Even if the kids find they're having trouble creating their own character, the company's website provides a variety of templates (designed by illustrator Echean Edmundson) to choose from and build upon, whether that means adding extra legs, perhaps another eyeball, some sort of prop, or simply coloring the character in to their heart's content.

There's nothing quite like a child's drawing. Even the most eccentric artist can only hope to achieve a fraction of the creativity that goes into artwork made by a kid. Even when a young one takes on a familiar subject, you end up seeing it in a way you never have before. I've never seen an art project from a kid that hasn't made me think. Thanks to Budsies, we don't have to let their art waste away on the refrigerator door. No, with their help, we can bring these amazing creations to life.

Photographer Gabriele Galimberti has traveled three years and visited dozens of countries to capture young kids in their homes and neighborhoods surrounded by what they play with each and every day. The book Toy Stories, out tomorrow March 25, contains 54 fascinating portraits that will make you think more than just about your own childhood but about the different set of circumstances each child is surrounded with as he or she grows up.
Gabriele said,"I ended up in a small village in northern Zambia where there was nothing. No electricity, no water, and, of course, no toy shops. But the children had found a box of sunglasses-I think it fell off a truck-and the glasses became their favorite toys. Actually, their only toys. They would play 'market,' buying and selling the glasses to each other, sharing everything between them."
