President Cares for his People
03 dec 2012 02:11

South Africa is a nation racked by poverty, where 13 million people survive on less than £1 a day, and two million have no access to a toilet. Yet as his people struggle in squalor, South African president Jacob Zuma has sparked outrage by spending £17.5 million to upgrade his rural family home. Lavish works – which include the construction of 31 new houses, an underground bunker accessed by lifts and a helipad – will cost almost as much as the £19 million British taxpayers send to South Africa in annual aid.

There Are Still Good People Out There
03 dec 2012 01:24

Jennifer Foster of Florence, AZ was visiting Times Square with her husband Nov. 14 when they saw a shoeless man asking for change. She writes, “Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him. The officer said, ‘I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man. The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching*. I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer’s name. It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared.”

Our thanks to the Fosters for their attention and appreciation, and especially to this officer, who remains anonymous.

Revolights Bike Lights
30 nov 2012 17:43

Cyclists, we all know that there’s not an established product on the market designed to illuminate the road ahead while improving rider visibility to other vehicles and pedestrians. Handlebar-mounted lights typically cast a narrow cone of light that will illuminate the road ahead or alert vehicles nearby, but they don’t do an adequate job of both needs at once. The Revolights define the shape of the cycle and illuminate in all directions, alerting nearby vehicles of the cyclist’s presence. They also illuminate the road ahead from a low vantage point on the front wheel, while the rear light flashes intermittently when a rider is braking.

It's Time To Occupy Hollywood (& Here's Why)
30 nov 2012 14:03

Occupy. That movement a while back when a bunch of people flooded the streets. Remember? Love them or hate them, there’s a lot to be said about these though-provoking portraits of celebrities by butyourelikereallypretty.com. When you look at the amount of money these individuals make & the amount of media exposure they receive, as opposed to the average income of the individual in the street and other vastly more important news and issues – you come back to the same answer. What’s more important, Kim Kardashian’s $17,000,000 sham wedding or the famine in Somalia which has left 750,000 starving to death?? Why don't you answer that for me.
