Pet photographer Serena Hodson gravitates in her work toward the strange and humorous, so it is unsurprising that she would create a series focused on the Sphynx, a hairless breed of cat. The animals carry with them, because of their unusual nakedness, an inherent and undeniable sense of the bizarre, but that is not all that Hodson wanted to focus on.
She also wanted to draw out the cats’ natural beauty, which can easily be overshadowed by their weirdness. Plus, they’re just really nice animals. Hodson says…
I think some people are just turned off by their nakedness, but I love that they’ve got nothing to hide. And they really do have the most amazing personalities, they’re very outgoing and “dog-like” which makes them wonderful to photograph.
