 Angelo Musco

Human sardines? No it's an art work by Italian artist Angelo Musco who creates incredible large-scale photographic compositions that are made up of thousands or even millions of human bodies. The time-consuming process of creating each piece starts with photo shoots of nude volunteers. The models are isolated in Photoshop and then added to Musco’s compositions. The final works, some of which have required two years of post production, can be upwards of 40 feet wide and 12 feet tall.

Hadokken-ing
29 mar 2013 14:31

As far as internet photo trends go, this one is certainly more fun than planking, Eastwooding or milking (don’t Google that one at work). Hadoken-ing, for lack of a better name, is a trend gaining popularity among Japanese students. Basically one person reenacts the “hadoken” attack from ‘Street Fighter,’ and everybody else plays along by jumping in the air. Some folks think it’s actually an homage to kamahameha from ‘Dragon Ball Z.’ Whatever it’s referencing, it is about a zillion times more entertaining than teenagers dumping a gallon of milk on their heads. Take a look for yourself.

Christian Tagliavini

You have to hand it to Swiss-Italian photographer Christian Tagliavini – he has a wonderful imagination. His latest series titled “Cardboard Ladies” features a collection of regal portraits of (yep you’ve guess it) ladies wearing cardboard. There’s certainly a nod to the style from the Italian Venetian Era and even a nod to whimsical fashion on display in Alice In Wonderland in his work. Personally we can’t wait to experience the next series of iconic images that his mind conjours up.

Take a touch of Michel Gondry, a hint of Floria Sigismondi and sweeping glance towards David LaChapelle and you’ll close to experiencing the world of the mysterious and enigmatic photographer known simply as The Turk. In his latest collection, he’s created a world where the abandoned, forgotten and discarded circus performers of the past insist that the show must go on. They’re all part of the fictional Salbatar Circus and as you’re about to see from the images below, their stories, roles and acts are all rather miserable and downtrodden – their glory days long gone.

 Laina Briedis
29 mar 2013 08:10

Long Island-based photographer Laina Briedis' seasonal images emanate a naturally Earthy beauty. A common tactic in her work is to isolate limbs or hide the subject's face within a frame and incorporate an element of nature (leaves or flowers) against an open backdrop. It's difficult to tell whether the female form or the natural environment is the main subject. It actually seems like they are both being featured as one in the same. Both are beautiful and, as indicated in one of the photographer's images, "there is beauty everywhere."

Honeycomb Homes
29 mar 2013 08:41

Ghadames, known as the “pearl of the desert”, is an oasis town in the Nalut District of the Tripolitania region in southwestern Libya. It is one of the oldest pre-Saharan cities and an outstanding example of a traditional settlement. The town has a population of around 10,000, mainly Berbers, who live in tightly clustered traditional mud-brick-and-palm houses, packed together like a honeycomb. The houses have a typical vertical architecture - the ground floor is used to store supplies, then another floor for the family, and at the top, open-air terraces are reserved for the women. Rooftop walkways allow women to move freely, concealed from men’s view. Overhanging structures cover the alleys between houses creating an almost underground network of passageways.

Let’s face it most calendars these days usually center around bikini-clad babes, ultra expensive cars or cute pictures of puppies and kittens – there’s not a lot of originality or variation going on there. Which is why I especially love the Disney Pin-Up Calendar masterfully created by J. Scott Campbell. Combining elements from all the famous Disney masterpieces, Campbell adds his own unique vision to them and then tops them off by adding in his iconic and gorgeously illustrated Disney Princesses. His work, as you’re about to see is jaw-droppingly good.

BUT in 2011 whilst the arrival of Siri for the iPhone could be seen as the first step towards this process even more impressive is the arrival of a robot called Qbo. Today was the first time he saw what he looked like in the mirror, below is his response and reaction. Robots becoming “self-aware” is now a reality.

With a name like Roadsworth, you could easily guess that this isn't any ordinary street artist. Though born Peter Gibson, he chose the name Roadsworth because, as he states, "Where Wordsworth is a poet of words, Roadsworth is a poet of roads." Though he started painting on the streets as a form of activism (for more bike paths), his motivation later evolved into a more personal one. It became his alternative form of expression, a creative outlet if you will. Currently his works all have an aspect of protest in them, a way for Roadsworth to comment on today's social issues or, as he says, "simply protest against the mundaneness of the urban landscape."

When looking at this artwork, at first you may only see the gorgeous lines and vibrant color of abstraction. But, upon further inspection, you'll find that these intricate swirls of color blend together to form detailed faces, shapes, and typography. And, most amazing of all, the entire piece is a three-dimensional construction, made out of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together onto the canvas.

Giuliano Mauri's "Cattedrale Vegetale" is arguably the most impressive piece of ‘natural architecture’ on Earth. Located at the foot of Mount Arera on the outskirts of Bergamo in the North of Italy, this living sculpture consists of a cage made from wooden poles, assembled to represent the columns of a church nave. Inside this cage, Mauri planted eighty hornbeam saplings. The artist claims that, in fifteen years time, the supporting structure will have gradually decayed and the hornbeams will have grown to form a completely organic "cathedral".
