Swedish architect Gert Wingårdh and Finnish illustrator Kustaa Saksi have collaborated on an architectural design project intended to serve as a temporary event space for the Hello! panelists at the 2013 Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair. Made up of 700,000 sheets of A4 paper, the venue boasts a brilliantly designed setting for some of the world's most innovative minds to discuss contemporary design culture. This year's topic for the annual event is "communication" and Wingårdh and Saksi's structure communicates its own message about beauty in design through its construction, material makeup, and elaborate color scheme.
The architectural installation revolves around the use of paper, a common material that Marketing Communications Manager at Stora Enso refers to as "the most widely used means of communication there is." Stacks of paper are suspended to create the frame of the space, all at once seeming to be a solid structure of walls and a transparent facade. Inside the space, the creative duo have further utilized the medium as high bases for desks by balancing tabletops over them.
For artistic flair, the the ceiling is filled with a cornucopia of illustrative hues that are beautifully reflected off the surfaces of said tables. This mirror effect translates throughout the room, turning it into a serene cathedral of color filled with the light of illusionary stain-glassed windows. The space is, in a way, re-imagined as an area of design worship amongst a congregation of art enthusiasts.
