J.J. Abrams. Zachary Quinto. Chris Pine. Zoe Saldana. Alice Eve in her underwear. And yet all anyone can talk about when it comes to Star Trek Into Darkness is its batches of cumbers, in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch. In the past year or so, the Sherlock star, who plays an unspecified role in Abrams's movie (meaning, I don't want it spoiled) has became an Internet cult sensation — he even has his own fan club, the Cumberbitches.
But why is he so beloved, possibly even the most beloved actor on the Internet right now? Let's find out.
1. Because "Benedict Cumberbatch" could be the name of a talking animal from a British children's book...
Because he's a bit of a grammar nerd — "A split infinitive occurs in the opening sequence of the Star Trek television series: to boldly go where no man has gone before."
