Whilst this flawless creation might look like an undiscovered deep-sea creature that dwells deep in the Mariana Trench, it’s in fact a stunning chandelier. It’s the wonderful work of Czech Designer Kateřina Smolíková (she’s still only a student!) who took her inspiration from luminescent oceanic organisms like jellyfish. She rightly won the Outstanding Student Design Award for the piece which she titled ‘Skyphos’.
Also interesting is that the chandelier itself is powered with LED, which in fact is one of the most efficient light sources available, reducing its impact on the environment. A subtle tribute to the imagination of nature and an acknowledgement that we need to preserve it.
