How ‘Game of Thrones’ Can Fix the Nudity Problem
28 may 2013 11:39

It seems some of the ladies (okay, one of the ladies) of ‘Game of Thrones’ are getting tired of flashing their naughty bits onscreen. Don’t worry, though — we’ve got a solution. Several, actually. Here are a few ways HBO could easily clean up all the nudity on ‘Game of Thrones.’ We’re pretty sure they leave the integrity of George R. R. Martin’s novels completely intact. What do you think?

Jimmy Fallon Plays the Hilarious ‘Game of Desks’
28 may 2013 11:37

If you’re at all a fan of ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon‘ then you are well aware of the heavily anticipated ‘Game of Desks’ digital original. The video aired this past Friday, and as you’d imagine, it did not disappoint. The short was made as a spoof to the popular HBO series ‘Game of Thrones,’ and has all of the fan favored characters. Yet as great as it was watching Fallon impersonate both Ned Stark and Daenerys Targaryen, our favorite moment might be the ending tie-ins dealing with soon-to-be-’Late Night’ host Seth Meyers and Jay Leno, whom Jimmy is replacing on ‘The Tonight Show.’ Perhaps the late night talk show world isn’t too different from the realm of Westeros (without all the murder, obviously).

Fact Or Fiction? A Vampire Hunting Kit From 1890
28 may 2013 11:33

Is this a fascinating piece of history or an elaborate hoax designed to capture the imagination? The legend goes that Andrew A. Kauffman (a vampire hunter in 1890) wrote the following letter to one Mrs. Eberhardt – detailing how he had vanquished “the vampire” that had apparently killed the woman’s daughter. His letter reads as follows: “I have dispatched the vampir that took your sweet daughters life. Included in this case are the tools used in the final act along with proof of its death. Mildredas life was too innocent to be taken by such a monster; she was dearly loved by me as we were newly betrothed. May she now rest in peace.” Inside his kit is a stake, a hatchet, a bottle of sulphur, pistol, holy water, pilers, the Holy Bible, a trusty Crucifix & syringe, but also a photo of the vampire’s victim – dear old Mildred. There is some debate as to the authenticity of the kit though, both the hatchet & knife are modern pieces, the typewritten letter appears to be dated 1849, which predates the typewriter, and also predates the break-action cartridge loading derringer. But whether it’s a piece of art or a piece of history, it makes for a fascinating talking point and guide to keep those long toothed fiends at bay.

A Look At The Violent & Terrifying Gangs Of El Salvador
28 may 2013 11:33

You may not have heard of them but Mara Savatrucha (aka MS-13) are easily one of the largest and most fear criminal gangs in the world. Spread across continental US, El Salvador, Honduras & even Guatemala their membership has swollen to well over 50,000 members. Particularly in the US where they first rose to prominence, local Los Angeles police regularly deport immigrant Salvadoran gang members back to El Salvador -a case of shifting the problem from one area to another. As a result of deportation, cities like San Salvador (the capital of El Salvador) are now home to some of the highest rates of violent crime and murder in the world. That’s what happens when you basically put some of the world’s most deadly individuals on the same turf. Calle 18 is another infamous gang embroiled in drug trafficking, violent crime and murders. When behind bars they are kept seperate from rival gang MS-13 to avoid prison riots, yet outside without the law to keep them in check they too roam the streets of El Salvador fighting over turf and distribution areas. Here’s several confronting images of gang members in penitentiaries, much like their Russian counterparts their tattoos signify their alliance to particular groups, facitions and cliques within the criminal community – a brotherhood of those for whom the law does not apply.

Bartenders Probably Won't Exist In The Future & Here's Why
28 may 2013 11:32

Here’s some chilling news to make the blood of bartenders around the world run cold. With our greatest emphasis on faster and faster service and a burning desire from business to keep up with supply and demand, many of the items we consume are processed without human intervention. Despite their ads of chefs fluttering around a kitchen using gourmet ingredients, fast food chains use “mechanically separated” meat in their meals – robots, not humans doing the slicing. So there’s a sense of inevitability that over time, robots will replace some of the more menial tasks of every day life. And that’s where Makr Shakr comes in, it’s a robotic bartending group, composed of 3 robots that work in unison to pour, blend and then serve your perfect beverage. I First you select the drink you’d like, there’s over 100 to choose from cocktails and liquors to beers and champagne and then Makr Shakr instantly gets to work creating it. It’s the result of a partnership between Italian architecture studio Carlo Ratti Associati and MIT SENSEable City Laboratory, it made its big premiere in May at the Google I/O 2013 showcase in San Francisco. Fast forward 10 years and new versions of these robots will be smaller, faster and cheaper. Is it that unrealistic to imagine that they could they become common place in bars around the world? Could they sit comfortable alongside the espresso machine eagerly awaiting your order and thus spelling the end of an era for your local bartender? Just maybe.

Childhood Photos Of The World's Most Brutal Dictators
28 may 2013 11:28

They are known universally as some of the world’s most hated, feared and brutal individuals. Once untainted and innocent youths, as men they evolved into dictators, despots, egomaniacs & warmongers. Together they have collectively destroyed, tormented and played key roles in the deaths of millions of individuals – either through their divisive philosophy, unrelenting fascism, promotion of racism, political propaganda design to oppress the masses & strengthen authority or their unquenchable thirst for power resulting in war. We take a look at the likes of Adolf Hilter, Joseph Stalin, Saddam Hussein & several others during their formative years. It makes for chilling viewing, little did the photographer know the apparent monster they were photographing or that they would go on to write some of the darkest chapters in recorded history

28 Impressive Examples Of Street Art Around The World
28 may 2013 11:25

In case you didn’t know, we’re avid supporters of street art / graffiti, there’s a lot to be said about injecting some much need creativity & imagination into everyday life. Would you rather look at a row of grey, mouldy council flats or an eight story high mural of brightly clothed girl with blue hair? Exactly. So we thought it was about time to bring you a brand new collection of characters, colours and concepts from the 4 corners of the world. Are there any local artists at work in your area? If so post your links in the comment below so we can check them out and add them to this article. Until then, we’ll leave you with these powerful & famous words from Banksy: Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.

Illuminated Animals, Dazzlingly Brought To Life | So Bad So Good
28 may 2013 11:24

We’re big fans of conventional street art, there will always be a place for a trusty spray-can and paint brush. But now digital projection mapping is becoming more and more commonplace, giving everyday objects a limitless new lease on life. Take these two large sculptures of a rhinoceros & owl (a random pairing we have to admit) in Rotterdam, Holland for example. They were featured at the Rotterdamse Museumnacht as part of the Rotterdam Museum Night, whereby art is taken to the streets and outside of the gallery space. Both were created by Sober Industries and Studio Rewind, their panels uniquely mapped & made interactive by Bruce Moerdjiman. Members of the public could then actually control the type of visuals that were then displayed on the creatures themselves, including altering the colours and toggling different effects like blending & scratching. You can see it all in motion in the video below, it’s a dazzling collision between design, physics, sculpture and colour and it’s pretty captivating to watch unfold.

Photographer Gives Lollipop Then Takes It Away
27 may 2013 12:52

Jill Greenberg “The Manipulator” is one of the more popular photographers of her era, however she is also one of the most controversial ones too. Her exhibit, called End Times, shows photos of various kids crying as if something terrible had happened. The pieces were titled to reflect Greenberg’s frustration with the government and Christian Fundamentalism in the United States. How does she get these shots, you might ask? One photography enthusiast revealed photographer’s rather cruel way of making her models cry – Greenberg gives them lollipop and then quickly takes it away. Once people realized this, many condemned her for such methods. Others, however, say that kids cry all the time, and there’s no harm in it. What about you? How far would you go to take a perfect shot?

It’s hard to believe, but all of the sculptures you see below are made entirely of wood and then painted. The person responsible is artist and educator Tom Eckert, who uses traditional processes to carve, construct, laminate and paint his pieces. Tom says his preferred woods are basswood, linden and limewood because they carve and paint well and are stable. His background is in painting and drawing, where his focus was on realism. His preferred paint is waterborne lacquer applied using both spray guns and brushes.

Riddle of The Day. What Is It For?
27 may 2013 11:38

You may have to make the most ridiculous faces while wearing it, but the Facewaver Exercise Mask is true to the saying: beauty is pain, or in this case, beauty makes you look like a fool. The mask’s function is to get rid of unsightly facial wrinkles, lines and any kind of sagging. In order for the magic to happen, however, it requires that you wear the rather tight-looking mask and pull all kinds of faces. The mask’s stretchy material ensures that it tightens the face and cheeks, getting rid of all those signs of aging. If this is done each day for just 5 minutes, a more youthful face will be the result. It only comes in pink and sells for $61 and, as you’ve already guessed, is made in Japan.
