The move to digital versions of games has been a long time coming, but the size of next-gen titles on the PlayStation 4 might be counter-intuitive for those looking to save of hard drive space. In a recent Q&A will Eurogamer, Sony UK boss Fergal Gara talked a bit about the move to digital downloads. The PlayStation 4 will offer the ability to play games as they download from the web, but as Gara explains, file size might make the feature underutilized. “[There] are big innovations in the PS4 to make it more attractive and more easy gamer wise to want to download,” Gara said. “The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don’t need the whole file before you go. This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.” Considering the PS4 ships with a 500GB hard drive, which will have some space already squared away for operations, there won’t be a whole lot of space left over for games of that size. While it’s true you could always add an external drive for more space, it almost makes more sense to just buy the physical game. While we don’t yet know if every game on the PS4 will be this massive, it’s something those planning to go full digital will have to keep in mind when making purchasing decisions.

There are going to be fans that are angry at us for not including titles like Gran Turismo, F1- Grand Prix, and Super Off Road, but we had to look at the bigger picture. Racing isn’t just simulation racing or sports racing. It’s any sort of game where your goal is to get to the finish line before your opponent. Thus we had to consider kart racers, gravity racers, and all those weird racing offshoots that cared more about car crashes than clean finishes. Valve Announces Steam Controller for Steam Machines (1 photo)

Following the announcement of SteamOS and Steam Machines, Valve revealed its first proprietary controller, the Steam Controller. It sure is something. “We realized early on that our goals required a new kind of input technology — one that could bridge the gap from the desk to the living room without compromises,” Valve said. “So we spent a year experimenting with new approaches to input and we now believe we’ve arrived at something worth sharing and testing with you.” That end result (depicted above) is the Steam Controller. Not content to rely on analog sticks and the now standard button array, Valve’s attempt at redefining what a controller can and should be has thrown the old books out the window in favor of some fairly outrageous design decisions. Rather than analog sticks, the Steam Controller features trackpads with haptic feedback. Supposedly more precise than standard console controls, the trackpads offer fidelity Valve promises relates very well to the keyboard/mouse experience. There will also be a small touchscreen in the middle of the controller, which will serve as an area to map multiple functions without the need for more physical buttons. “When programmed by game developers using our API, the touch screen can work as a scrolling menu, a radial dial, provide secondary info like a map or use other custom input modes we haven’t thought of yet,” Valve described. Since the Steam Controller is designed to work with every single game in the Steam catalog, the device needed loads of flexibility the touchscreen should certainly provide. You’ll be able to obtain one in the same fashion as the Steam Machine itself, though it’s not clear if this beta will be offered to people who don’t happen to get a Steam Machine. The beta version of the controller will also be slightly different, and won’t offer touchscreen or wireless functionality. It’s certainly an interesting peripheral, but until we actually get one in our hands, we’re not going to get too hyped up about its prospects.

DC Comics And David Goyer Conjure A John Constantine TV Show (1 photo)

DC Comics has announced their third TV series this season (Gotham Central and The Flash being the other ones). Deadline reports NBC has picked up a Warner/DC adaptation of Constantine, based on the cynical British con-man and magician turned supernatural detective John Constantine, not to be confused with the Keanu Reeves portrayed by Keanu Reeves in 2005′s Constantine. The show will be written and produced by David Goyer (co-writer of Man Of Steel and Nolan’s Batman trilogy) and Daniel Cerone (producer of The Mentalist). As far as we know, the movie version of the character instrumental to Guillermo Del Toro’s Dark Universe is still in development. Constantine‘s contract stipulates there will be a penalty for NBC if they don’t air the show. John Constantine knows what a shaft those contracts with penalties are.

Artist, aspiring filmmaker, and current Emerson College student Jody Steel has been generating buzz online lately with the pop culture portraits she doodles during class. Her subjects include fictional characters like Breaking Bad's Walter White and Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen, and artists like musician Thom Yorke and author Neil Gaiman. Also, she draws the portraits on her right thigh. Since she began uploading pictures of the drawings to the Internet earlier this month, she's received notoriety both online and offline -- and zero pushback from her professors. This news is less than surprising, given our apparently bottomless lack of taste as a species; a gold iPad Mini might be on the way as part of the Mini refresh. And it’ll also have the amusingly useless nipple scanner…errr…Touch ID because why the hell not? The rumor comes courtesy a Chinese site called DoNews, which has a spotty track record when it comes to this stuff, but it’s not like they’re telling us something a large corporation that likes money wouldn’t do. And honestly, it makes sense. Apple likes its mobile devices to look fairly similar to each other. The iPad and the iPhone have generally mirrored one another in design, and the Mini followed the trend; as wrong as all the old jokes about an iPad being four iPhones duct-taped together turned out to be, both are unmistakably Apple products that are part of the same line. And the iPad Mini is staggeringly popular, to the point where it’s outselling the iPad. So, considering how quickly the gold iPhone sold out, to some degree it only makes financial sense to give the people what they want and sell a matching Mini. All that said, it does so far appear that the iPad line, at least, will be spared the indignity of becoming a prop for insecure people to try and tell you how wealthy they are, but since those people will just have the thing gold-plated anyway, we guess in the end it’s a wash.

It’s become increasingly difficult to separate truth from rumor in the ongoing revamp of the ‘Star Wars‘ franchise, as every day seems to bring new reports of leading actors or fan-favorite characters slated to join the new film trilogy. If nothing else, however, confirmed animated series ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ has made new strides in shoring up a voice cast, from the likes of Freddie Prinze Jr. and ‘The Butler’ star David Oyelowo, himself previously rumored for a role in the films. The Hollywood Reporter broke news of the casting negotiations, adding to the list of Oyelowo and Prinze that Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steven Jay Blum have also been contacted for leading roles in the series set to debut in late 2014. Oyelowo (‘Lincoln,’ ‘Interstellar’) had recently been rumored for a filmic ‘Star Wars’ role, though his potential placement among the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ cast wouldn’t necessarily preclude the possibility, either. So far, we know that ‘Star Wars Rebels’ will take place “in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape,” while concept art of a new Millenium Falcon-esque starship serving as a central location has made its way online. Picking up where the now-canceled ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ left off, ‘Star Wars Rebels’ will feature on the creative side screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men: First Class,’ ‘Elysium‘), who’s writing the first episode, as well as ‘Clone Wars’ supervising director Dave Filoni and ‘Young Justice’ producer Greg Weisman. Black Sabbath are no strangers to the macabre and the darker side of life but the band is taking it to a whole new level with their brand new ‘Black Sabbath: 13 3D’ maze. Having made its debut on Friday, Sept. 20 at the premiere of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights event, the attraction pulls dark themes from the legendary band’s latest disc ’13′ and brings them to a whole new level of dastardly delights. Fans who can’t make it to California to check out the metal masterpiece can watch the five-minute walk-through above to get a feel for what the attraction has to offer. Based on the music of Sabbath’s ‘13’ the maze takes fans through a ghoulish landscape of doom and gloom covering graveyards, battlefields and madhouses – just to name a few. On the night that the maze opened, Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler were on hand to accept their very own Eyegore awards. Eyegore awards recognize achievements in horror and sci-fi making the band a perfect match. Dave Grohl Remembers Last Conversation With Kurt Cobain (1 photo)

Together, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl made history. Nirvana broke new ground with ‘Nevermind’ in 1991 and the living members of the band are currently celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the band’s follow-up effort, 1993′s ‘In Utero.’ In a new interview, Grohl speaks with Rolling Stone about his relationship with the late Kurt Cobain, revealing his final exchange with the singer. When asked about the early days and living together as a band, Grohl recalled, “Living with Kurt was funny. He isolated himself in a lot of ways, emotionally. But he had a genuine, sweet nature. He never intentionally made you feel uncomfortable. Living with him in that tiny apartment in Olympia, Washington, there was some sort of bond. But it was much different than his relationship with Krist.” Speaking about that bond, Grohl characterized it as something more kin than what he personally shared with Cobain. He explains, “I looked at Krist and Kurt as soulmates. The two had such a beautiful, unspoken understanding of each other. Those two guys, together, totally defined the Nirvana aesthetic. Every quirk, all the strange things that came from Nirvana came from Krist and Kurt.” An overdose in Rome nearly claimed Cobain’s life prior to his eventual 1994 death, and Grohl recalls his final conversation with his colleague and friend. He states, “I called Kurt after Rome. I said, ‘Hey, man, that really scared everybody. And I don’t want you to die.’ Then I saw him at our accountant’s office [in Seattle]. He was walking out as I was walking in. He smiled and said, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ And I said, ‘I’ll give you a call.’ And he said, ‘Okay.’” Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ album turns 22 today (Sept. 24), while the ‘In Utero’ 20th anniversary edition (available here) arrives in stores today after celebrating its official 20th anniversary over the weekend. Motley Crue Debut Fiery Stage Show for Las Vegas 'Evening in Hell' (1 photo + 1 video)

Motley Crue promised state-of-the-art pyrotechnics for their ‘An Intimate Evening in Hell’ residency at the the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and it looks like they weren’t just blowing smoke. According to preeminent rich & famous lifestyle chronicler Robin Leach, who previewed the band’s set for the Las Vegas Sun, attendees should “expect fire alarms and flashing-light warnings” for a fire-filled show that will reportedly find Tommy Lee drumming “inside a mystical symbol also set on fire” and Vince Neil singing ‘Home Sweet Home’ inside a “white-angel Liberace-esque cloak…that will be sprayed with fire retardant nightly.” Leach secured an endorsement from Vegas fixture Carrot Top, who enthused, “You can feel the heat! All of Las Vegas will know the show’s started — it’s that loud and fiery. It wasn’t just the Joint that shook from it; the entire hotel did.” “There is no show like this. There never has been, and there never will be,” Neil told Leach. “You’ve seen video fire from other rock acts on tour, but never the real thing. It’s more than any rock group has ever produced or attempted. It really is entering the depths of hell. There’s fire all around and fire coming down from above.” Neil went on to insist that fans could look forward to more than just special effects; in fact, he says the band’s set list puts him through his paces more doggedly than most. “I don’t get one break,” he explained. “We start with a song from when we began 30 years ago. We’ve reached back over the years to old hits to match up with new hits. It’s a difficult set list for me vocally — ‘Too Young to Fall in Love’ is no easy song to perform. We rehearsed the entire show in L.A., but we tested the entire set list with shows in Oklahoma and Miami. The reaction was incredible.” The band couldn’t do everything they wanted to do — Leach’s article mentions “plans for robots” that were dropped due to safety concerns, and questions whether fire marshals will allow them to attempt setting a stuntman on fire atop a blazing piano — but the end result still sounds suitably over the top. “We have the best fire tech experts in the world. This is so over the top, the only thing cool is what we do!” laughed Neil. “Basically, we’re setting everything on fire in a way that’s never been done before.” Based on the photo-filled Twitter feeds of Leach and Crue bassist Nikki Sixx, it looks like everybody had fun and avoided the emergency room. It all started innocently enough, with a Lady Gaga fan getting super excited that celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton was spotted in the lobby of Gaga’s apartment building. Until Lady Gaga took this news and freaked out, calling security and then raging against Hilton on Twitter in all caps, going so far to accuse him of stalking her. After learning that Hilton was in her lobby of her New York apartment building through a fan, Gaga called security, who took care of the situation. They confirmed to Mother Monster (who was in L.A. at the time) that it was in fact the gossipmonger on her doorstep. Which resulted in some angry — and since deleted – comments hurled Hilton’s way:

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Palpatine Returns (2 photo)

So Disney and Lucasfilm ended up giving us nothing about Star Wars: Episode VII at their D23 Expo this last weekend, and it left many fans including myself unfulfilled and disappointed. But today we bring you some cool news regarding the highly anticipated film! There's a rumor been floating around that Emperor Palpatine would be back and that Ian McDiarmid would be returning to play him. That news has now been confirmed by our friends at Latino-Review, who also give us some spoilerish details on how he will return because as you know, he was murdered by Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi. I've been seeing people talking about the character being cloned, but that just didn't really make sense to me. It never even really made sense to me in the comics either. As site points out, why would the clone be an old Emperor? The whole thing made me think that their was no real truth behind the rumor, which is why I never posted anything about it. Everything has now clicked into place, though!

It happened. The notoriously anti-Internet Prince has joined Twitter (which may be a little confusing to those of you who thought the @PrinceTweets2u account was actually Prince). The musician started posting Tweets under the account of his band, 3rd Eye Girl last night, a spree that as Billboard points out was verified by Twitter’s Tatiana Grace. And in just a matter of a few hours, Prince touched on all the essentials of the social media: selfies, food pictures and memes. He also posted a snippet of a new 3rd Eye Girl song, “Groovy Potential” which-as the title suggests-is indeed very groovy. Listen to the preview below.

UPS Airbus A300 Crashes On Approach To Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Int'l (3 photo)

Reports are coming in early Wednesday morning that a UPS Airbus A300 with registration N155UP has crashed just outside Birmingham Airport, short of runway 18. Early reports have not yet mentioned a possible cause, number of crew on board, or any injuries on the ground. WVTM-TV in Alabama claims the area of the crash was once a neighborhood, but is now an open field, owned by the airport. The crashed flight may have been UPS 1354, from Louisville Intl (KSDF) to Birmingham, a short 45 minute hop. The mayor of Birmingham has confirmed 2 fatalities as a result of the crash, the pilot and co-pilot. There were no injuries on the ground. The NTSB has launched a full go-team to the site. Birmingham Airport remains open, and flights are operating on time. NOTAMs are reporting that runway 18/36 is closed, and PAPI lights as well as the ILS system for runway 18 are down. The mayor of Birmingham, William Bell, noted a long debris field, with the airframe broken up into several parts, and that there were no storms in the area. AL.com reports that authorities tell them that no distress calls were made to the tower prior to the crash.
