Maximo Riera's latest creation is this awesome furniture collection of Animal Chairs. Three years in the making, these jet-black and richly detailed pieces were inspired by octopi, rhinos, lions, whales, beetles, and walruses.

Carved from compressed foam, which is stabilized by an internal steel frame, each chair is enveloped in real leather. And while they might not be as heavy as their living counterparts, they’re not exactly portable: the elephant chair weighs 353 pounds.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Ain't Ratchet!
15 jan 2013 12:30

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a Nobel Peace Prize winner, Civil rights revolutionary, inspirational speaker, martyr, preacher, genius... and the theme for tonight's 2 for 1 drink special at the shitty bar on the corner of 6th and Mission. Something is wrong with this picture! Instead of celebrating with a drink or some other ratchet girl at the club who really just wants to get in and out of your pants, why don't we celebrate the beliefs that MLK Jr. actually fought for? Have a BBQ and think about the wonderful difference this man has made for you and your family, you community, and for this country as a whole.

Amber Alert in Philadelphia: Child Found Alone at 4:40am
15 jan 2013 12:19

5 year old Neilla Robinson was abducted from school by a woman claiming to be her mother. Fortunately, she was discovered at 4:40am the next day by a passerby at a local playground to whom little Neilla, dressed in only a t-shirt, said she had been "stolen." She is currently being checked out for traces of any sexual assault, but sources are saying that she seems to be alright. The girl was taken from her own school, William C. Bryant School, in west Philadelphia. Authorities have released a surveillance video showing a woman wearing a full-length, black Muslim garment, her face covered by a black veil, taking the girl out of the school. Apparently school policies were not followed, as the false mother picked up the child from her classroom, instead of waiting for her at the main office. So, is it the school's fault?

Creative Cannibalism Coming To A Kitchen Near You? | So Bad So Good

Get ready for the grotesque, thought-provoking & peculiar art of New York based visual artist Christine Chin. She’s the inventive mind behind “Sentient Kitchen”, a disturbing series of photographs and sculptures designed to examine the convergence between biology and technology. "I’ve taken inspiration from some of nature’s most ingenious engineering. What better way to dispense salt than through an organ that is highly developed to taste, and why not take advantage of the mammary gland’s unique relationship to milk? While it is the nature of the human ego to cast suspicion on a challenge to human intellect, Sentient Kitchen products offer a non-threatening environment to explore the benefits of smarter, more sensitive solutions to our daily dining needs." – Christine Chin
