Cosplay Appreciation: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Costumes
16 may 2013 16:50

We may well end up being disappointed in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot currently filming in New York City. Even Megan Fox bouncing on a trampoline may not save it. But that doesn't mean we have to stop appreciating well done TMNT cosplay. With that in mind, let's check out 25 awesome costumes based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters. (And check back next week for some more cosplay appreciation.)

Watching GIFs In Reverse Makes Everything Better
16 may 2013 16:44

I want to enjoy something, anything in life as much as that man loves cotton candy. Earlier today, the GIF you see above made it to the front page of Reddit...and then I was introduced to the wonderful world of /r/reversegif. Things, be they people, animals, cars, or directions in life, going in reverse is just funny. It's as simple as that. Haha, they're doing what people do every day, but backwards. It's wacky AND simplistically funny! Let's take a look at some other GIFs in reverse.

The Office Series Finale Primer: The Best Of Creed Bratton GIFs
16 may 2013 16:42

The thing that will hurt most as The Office departs our lives forever is not the later stage mismanagement of a show that could have gone down as a top ten all-time sitcom, it's the knowledge that I still have so much to learn from Dunder Mifflin's Quality Assurance Director. Alas, at least we have many previous pearls of wisdom to forever let marinate inside our brains. Here's a collection I like to think of this as the next best thing to an active www.creedthoughts.gov.www/creedthoughts.

18 Reasons Benedict Cumberbatch Cult Is Strong
16 may 2013 16:40

J.J. Abrams. Zachary Quinto. Chris Pine. Zoe Saldana. Alice Eve in her underwear. And yet all anyone can talk about when it comes to Star Trek Into Darkness is its batches of cumbers, in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch. In the past year or so, the Sherlock star, who plays an unspecified role in Abrams's movie (meaning, I don't want it spoiled) has became an Internet cult sensation — he even has his own fan club, the Cumberbitches. But why is he so beloved, possibly even the most beloved actor on the Internet right now? Let's find out.

'Star Trek Into Darkness' Is Great, Until...
16 may 2013 16:29

Star Trek Into Darkness actually does everything right, regardless of how you feel about the franchise. It’s action-packed; it’s fast-paced; it’s even actually surprisingly thoughtful, raising the question of whether we hunt terrorists damn the torpedoes or whether we stop and think about the moral consequences of our actions. Do we go to our enemies guns blazing and give no quarter, or do we refuse to accept war as an inevitability? And then everybody loses their damn minds. Spoilers to follow. Let’s start with the good. This is not a remake of The Wrath of Khan and in fact largely avoids using it. Unfortunately, where it does, it’s massively clunky, and it leads to the worst part of the movie. But until then, it’s a lot of fun, better than the first one, even. OK, so there’s a lot of Star Wars here. Kirk even flies what amounts to a Millenium Falcon at one point. The opening is clumsy and tone-deaf to an alarming degree. It’s not a perfect movie by a long shot. But then the ship rights itself. Abrams, having a good cast and being a TV guy, handles the moments of quiet drama better than the enormous action sequences, but the enormous action sequences are fun and solidly done. The movie does a good job being its own story and it actually makes superb use of Khan as a character, helped considerably by Benedict Cumberbatch knowing when to show restraint and when to eat scenery like it’s candy. Once the editing smooths out it’s actually a zippy ride.

Star Trek Into Darkness actually does everything right, regardless of how you feel about the franchise.

Guy Fieri Has A New Book Out And It's Terrible
16 may 2013 16:23

porcupine-domed culinary terrorist Guy Fieri has a random collection of words out today, and it appears to be every bit as terrible as walking in on your girlfriend as she’s being drilled balls deep by Glenn Beck. Thankfully, we didn’t have to read it to figure this out, but some poor schmuck at Flavorwire did. Here’s a sampling of the crap-flower prose you can find in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives: The Funky Finds in Flavortown… http://flavorwire.com/391448/the-20-most-absurd-quotes-from-guy-fieris-new-book

Clips From: 'Lego Batman: The Movie - DC Super Heroes Unite!'
16 may 2013 16:16

Don’t feel bad if you’re not sure what the hell Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite! actually is (aside from a grammatical nightmare). It took me a solid 20 minutes of research to figure it out, but I think I finally have it! It’s a movie based on Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes the video game (which came out last year). Or who knows, maybe it’s the other way around — all I know is it involves Batman, so I’m going to post about it! Terrible title aside, the movie(?) looks like it’s going to be pretty charming. Hit the jump for a couple clips…

"There are calendars and other products coming out in the UK, Russia (and the Balkans), Japan, Korea, Germany and, of course, here. So it's pretty exciting! And having just released the book published by Abrams is fantastic."

In a world filled with cynical people, it's comforting to know that there's someone like Heng Swee Lim. The Kuala Lampur, Malaysia-based illustrator creates bright and sunny works that will turn anyone's day around. Filled with optimism and hope, they have that child-like innocence to them that's wonderfully refreshing. When we asked Lim why he illustrates this way, he told us this. "We live in a world full of depression. I hope my drawings can make you feel easy, free, happy and hopeful. More than anything, I hope it makes people smile, straight from their heart."

The collection also presents the unmistakable resemblances between Jim Morrison and Val Kilmer with long, wavy locks, not to mention the almost indistinguishable James Dean and James Franco.

These playful graphic prints by graphic designer, filmmaker and artist Safwat Saleem are quite entertaining. Coupled is a series that features relationships between two inanimate objects or cartoons that are interacting with each other in very unexpected ways. The two-color designs incorporate simple silhouettes paired with clever captions that give surprising meaning to each scene. Through just a few simple words, Saleem gives personality to the otherwise non-speaking, sedentary things.

Survival can become a challenging task in the wild – especially if you’re smaller or slower than your possible predators. This is why many animal species have developed different ways to camouflage themselves throughout the course of evolution. Ways to camouflage differ depending mostly on three factors: the physiology and behavior of the animal, then those of the predator and the environment, in which the animal lives and hunts its food. Blending in with the environment is the most common approach.

Crazed Taylor Swift Fan Arrested
15 may 2013 15:54

An overzealous Taylor Swift fan was arrested in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, May 15, after swimming up to her new digs in Rhode Island. The unnamed dude, a 22-year-old Chicago native, made the long, cold journey to Swift’s home, but was scared away by her security team and decided to turn around. He was spotted by cops exiting the water around 2 a.m., about a mile from Taylor’s new $17 million dollar estate, and told police he had swam there intending to meet her. He was promptly booked on trespassing charges and remains in custody. Who says romance is dead? (And really, maybe he shouldn’t have been dispatched so quickly — this has the makings of a great song.) But alas, TMZ spoke to the Westerly Police, who said there is a “zero tolerance policy” for trespassing, and that they already met with Taylor on the matter — after she woke up, presumably. Taylor hasn’t released a statement, but we’re guessing she knew he was trouble when he, uh, swam in.

MAMMAS: An all new web series by Isabella Rossellini
15 may 2013 13:49

Isabella Rossellini is back with her bizarre web series about the animal world. This time around, instead of exploring the world of sexual relations between insects, Rossellini has teamed up with Sundance yet again to make shorts about the joys of animal motherhood. This is the third installment in Sundance’s ‘Green Porno’ series, which is written by and stars actress Isabella Rosselini. Thankfully these vids don’t involve learning that lady bedbugs don’t have vaginas or that male bedbugs just impale them with their knife penises wherever they want. (You don’t even want to know how bees have sex.) In this first short, Rossellini — dressed like an old-timey prisoner — monologues about how if she were a hamster, she wouldn’t be put on trial, which immediately segues into her putting on a hamster costume and teaching us why hamsters eat their young in the first place. Hint: It has something to do with the amount of babies a mother hamster can logically feed, a need to boost nutrients after giving birth, and basically a logical decision to cull the weak babies from the fold. Nature is a cruel, cruel mistress. It would make more sense if just she offed the kids who were smart-mouthed.

Simon Pegg Brightens Up ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’
15 may 2013 13:42

Since ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ hits theaters this Friday, we only found it appropriate to take some time to admire all the cuteness this new movie has to offer, like British star Simon Pegg. Simon Pegg has been putting a smile on our faces for a long time — from his work with co-star Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright on films like ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ ‘Hot Fuzz’ and the upcoming ‘The World’s End,’ to a bevy of other movies including ‘How to Lose Friends and Alienate People,’ ‘Paul’ and, of course, ‘Star Trek.’ In ‘Star Trek Into Darkness,’ Pegg reprises his role of Scotty, the ship’s Scottish (duh) engineer and one of the film’s primary forms of comic relief. Scotty didn’t get a whole lot to do in the last movie, but this time around his adventures are much more action-packed and often pretty hilarious. He’s definitely our favorite spaceship engineer and drunkard. Pegg is one heck of a talented actor, and is able to pull off any number of things from charming to jerky, from love interest to action guy — you name it. So check out some pics of Pegg below, and definitely check him out in ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ this weekend.

Unfortunately, poor Dick is going to have to settle for snail mail when his birthday comes around this year. British department store Marks & Spencer recently denied the wishes of sweet old Ruth Levy for a birthday e-card. Being the lovely woman we imagine her to be, Levy wished to send her pal an electronic birthday message. Unfortunately, it was deemed impossible, with the reason being her use of profanity in the message. But it turns out the only profanity she used was calling her friend Richard by his common name – Dick. After several rewrite attempts, Levy was sent a letter from M&S, suggesting she use the name “Richard.”Levy has dubbed the incident “political correctness gone absolutely mad.” So what are your thoughts? But first, for what it’s worth…Happy Birthday, Dick!
