Today, spankings are taboo and "time out" means withdrawing to a room that probably has internet access and/or a video game system. Thus, parents are having to get extra creative when it comes to disciplining their misbehaving kids.
Master Barber and owner of A-1 Kutz in Atlanta, Russell Frederick aka "Rusty Fred" has come up with the best way to punish kids in the modern era: by giving them old man haircuts. After trying this new disciplinary tactic on his own 12-year-old son Rushawn (whose grades subsequently skyrocketed following his geriatric grooming), Rusty Fred has decided to offer the "Benjamin Button Special" three days a week at his barber shop, absolutely free of charge.
Many have expressed concern about the effects of public shaming on the behavior and self esteem of the child. Rusty Fred noted, “There are a few people that are saying it’s emotional abuse; but on average, everyone is applauding the mother that brought the child in — and applauding me as well." He then went on to say, “Parents are at a loss. When you go to discipline kids these days, they can’t necessarily use physical punishment they way parents did in the past, but they have to do something. If you don’t, and your kid ends up doing something crazy, everyone is going to say the problems started at home.”
