The internet can argue all day long about whether or not ‘Die Hard’ is a Christmas movie, but I think we can all agree that ‘Home Alone’ is definitely a holiday classic. Recently, much to the delight of all the 90’s babies out there, Google teamed up with everyone’s favorite prankster Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) to recreate some classic scenes from the film.
Macaulay Culkin was first introduced to us as Kevin McCallister in 1990 when he was 10 years old. Almost 30 years later the 38-year-old star is back and looks better than ever.
Many people may not know but the role of Kevin McCallister was written specifically for Culkin by John Hughes who got the idea for the film during the filming of ‘Uncle Buck’ – also starring the child star.
‘Home Alone’ was so successful that it held the Guinness World Record for over 25 years as number one at the box office, making $17,081,997 in 1202 theaters.
As with many childhood stars fame took a troubling toll on the actor. In 2004 he was arrested for marijuana possession and two controlled substances. Culkin was briefly arrested then suspended after pleading guilty.
Viewers were not only delighted to see a nostalgic remake, but see the former actor back on their screens looking healthy and happy. The now self described actor, writer and painter is a living Christmas miracle.
Accompanied by AI technology from Google, the older and wiser ‘Mcallister’ doesn’t experience nearly as much chaos as he did in the earlier film. Watch the ad below!
