Many people have weird rat phobias, or think that rats are dirty, aggressive or useless. Well drop all of your preconceptions, because rats are truly amazing little animals that make awesome pets. And here are all, hard to argue with, reasons!
Rats are low maintenance and easy to care for. The cages are usually made easy to clean,just buy some chewing toys, and give them water and food every day. They are perfect pets for people who don't have time to walk their pets, or live in small apartments.
Rats are affectionate. Like a cat or a dog, rats like to cuddle and interact with their giant people friends. Show them love, and you'll be rewarded by an eager playful ratty, who might also give you one of her/his soft licks, as the ultimate sign of acceptance.
Rats are clean. A rat grooms him/herself a lot! It can go from 5-15 times a day, and if you have a few living together, they often groom each other, and make various squeaky sounds, which is fun to watch. They don't puke (which is why they're so easy to poison), don't have fur balls nor do they smell bad.
Rats have personality. Unlike other rodents that might appear dull, rats are quite interesting to watch and interact with. They are all different, from shy, to outgoing, to goofy. So it's always cool to feel like you have your own special little pet.
Rats are extremely intelligent. They are the most intelligent rodents, and are easily trained. You can teach them a variety of tricks, which is fun and rewarding for both of you :-)
