Theodor Seuss Geisel (the world knows him as Dr. Seuss) was one of the most imaginative writers, poets and cartoonists of his generation. Famous for penning some of the world’s most loved children’s book in the form of The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton Hears a Who! , he was able to capture the imagination of children unlike any other.
"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life’s realities."
He was also the mind behind countless inspirational & whimsical quotes such as “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” and “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” which today are constantly referneced by children and adults alike.
His unique wordplay, combined with his illustration skills propelled him to one of the most celebrated and loved writers for generations of children. But before he started becoming known as a definitive and unique voice in the literary world, he was commissioned to create adverts for numerous brands. We’ve selected a several rarely seen examples of his work, some are the very early drawings of many of his characters (The Cat In The Hat) that would go on to become his most established and most loved.
