Scratchboard is an artistic medium in which an etching tool such as an X-Acto knife is used to scrape through a layer of ink into a foundational layer of clay underneath.
In the case of these images from Cristina Penescu, coatings of black ink have been punctiliously poked and scraped thousands of times each so that in the contrast between the ink that is left on the board and white clay beneath it, we see the stunning images of wolves and other dogs…
