After t-shirts are cheaply manufactured in sweat shops around the world, many are sent to the U.S. where we can find them at Walmarts and tawdry gift shops. Then, once the original purchaser has made their statement or had their laughs with the apparel or if the shirts never sell in the first place, they often end up at charities and thrift shops.
Then, if they are rejected even there, the attire is sent back to the impoverished countries where it may well have come from in the first place.
Here is a series by photographer Paolo Woods of such clothing being put to use at the end of its lifecycle in Haiti, where — for a few of these shirts at least — clearly no one is around to translate the tacky and tasteless slogans…
