In a bizarre display of selfish hubris, an eccentric Chinese professor in Beijing turned his little attic home at the top of a 26-story apartment building into a virtual mountaintop penthouse. Over the course of 6 years, he brought up all the rocks and building material he needed to construct a mountain around his home and add balconies and landscaping.
All without permission, of course.
How it went on that long, I have no idea, but needless to say, tenants below him are concerned that the building is going to collapse. They say they are seeing cracks form and apartments are flooding because of pipes his project has broken.
Authorities have now finally given the man 15 days to dismantle his fake mountain. Hopefully, everyone will remain safe and the structure remain upright during the demo.
