When it comes to fighting games, especially when you were playing against a friend, after you’ve selected your characters there was always the debate and which location to do battle in. Each fighter usually comes from a unique part of the world, so you can have you match in their hometown or in a neutral country – either way there was often much wrangling and debate “China?” “Brazil?” “Downtown L.A.?” the list of battlegrounds are as exotic as they are diverse.
Technically youβre supposed to be focusing on your opponents moves and tactics, not admiring the background / arena. Thatβs somewhat of a shame because they are usually visual masterpieces themselves. Little street scenes, subtle animations, crowds going berserk or fires glowing away they all add to the feel, mood and tone not only of the game but the fight and characters themselves.
Redditor RudeBootie recently decided to pay tribute to the backgrounds used in countless fighting games but posting a pretty epic collection of 125 animated gifs right here. Heβs taken scenes from games such as Street Fighter 2: Super Turbo, Street Fighter: Alpha 3, Street Fighter: Third Strike, The Art of Fighting, King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown and several others.
We thought weβd feature 35 of our personal favs from that collection β do let us know which you remember / are you favorites β theyβre sure to bring back a few memories.
