A Mechanical Prosthetic Hand That Can Be 3D Printed at Home


Robohand is a mechanical prosthetic hand that can be 3D printed at home from designs that are freely available on Thingiverse. The prosthetic is a collaboration between Richard Van As, a South African craftsman who lost four fingers in a work accident, and Ivan Owen, a Washington-based artist who makes mechanical hand sculptures. The duo collaborated over the Internet, meeting in person just once during the development process. The first Robohand was delivered to Liam, a five year old South African with no fingers on his right hand, and as this video shows, it works rather well.
