The Largest Puzzle in the World
17 jan 2013 06:44
Civil servant Amanda Warrington, from Yate near Bristol, spent 17 months and a staggering 1,000 hours completing the whopping 24,000–piece puzzle. The 50-year-old then cut the two-stone puzzle into quarters and stuck it on the wall using extra-strong adhesive. Charmer of Tiger Sharks
17 jan 2013 06:42
A man with an extraordinary bond with often deadly tiger sharks can roll them in the palm of his hand - and even kiss them. Eli Martinez, 41, travels to Tiger Beach off the Bahamas multiple times every year and has struck up an incredible relationship with the local sharks. He says that by going through the exact same routine for the past 10 years, he can now not only spot which shark is which but that they recognise the interactions, too. But despite the amazing level of trust he insists he never forgets what they are capable of and why they have a reputation for being one of the top predators in the world.

Best Zoo in America
17 jan 2013 06:41
Perhaps the best place to view animals without trekking into the wilderness, the Zoological Society of San Diego is actually a zoo and a park, each worth its own day trip. The San Diego Zoo comprises 100 acres of tropical grounds and 800 species (including a pair of pandas on loan from China). The 2,200-acre Wild Animal Park, 32 miles northeast of the zoo, features several natural habitats and a Galápagos tortoise that must have been around when Custer was fighting his last battle. Visitors can view roaming herds of exotic animals from a five-mile-long monorail or by way of a walking safari. Designed to help breed endangered species, the park has seen some 20,000 creatures born within its borders—including 120 rhinoceroses—since it opened in 1972. Many of the zoo's younger residents hang out at the Petting Kraal.

Ominous Photos of Haboobs
17 jan 2013 06:40
A haboob is a type of intense dust storm carried on an atmospheric gravity current. Haboobs occur regularly in arid regions throughout the world. This wall of dust can be up to 100 km (62 mi) wide and several kilometers in elevation. At their strongest, haboob winds often travel at 35–100 km/h (~20–60 mph), and they may approach with little or no warning. Often rain does not appear at ground level as it evaporates in the hot, dry air (a phenomenon known as virga).
