Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent is out on $500, 000 bail after he allegedly sped and flipped a car in whihc his team mate Jerry Brown Jr. died. Brent was speeding in the Mercedes he was driving, when it slammed into a curb. The car flipped at least once before coming to a rest. Irving police said Brent was given a field sobriety test and arrested for driving drunk and then for manslaughter when Brown died.
Brent said, "I am devastated and filled with grief. Filled with grief for the loss of my close friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. I am also grief-stricken for his family, friends and all who were blessed enough to have known him. I will live with this horrific and tragic loss every day for the rest of my life. My prayers are with his family, our teammates and his friends at this time."
Jerry Brown had never gotten to play for the Cowboys.
Brown had played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. he also played arena football for the Jacksonville Sharks and the San Antonion Talons.
Brent has started 5 times this year and played a total of 12 games all together.
The benzo they were rolling in caught on fire. Brent tried to drag Brown from the burning car.
Police contend that Brent was going much faster then 45 mph.
And of course Brent is a repeat offender. He was arrested for drink driving while he attended the University of Illinois.
Brent and Brown were team mates back in the University of Chicago days.
Our prayers are with the families of both these players.
