Coach Mike Montgomery from Cal Recently shoved one of his own players in the middle of a game. He said it was wrong and out of character for him to do it but needed to motivate his young player. The Player he shoved was his start Allen Crabbe. When the shove took place the Cal bears were trailing by 15 points but after the shove the team was motivated and came back to win the game 76-68. So it looks like the motivation worked. Coach Montgomery when asked if he would shove a player again said he would if that's what it takes to win but not when its unnecessary. He said there was no excuse for the shove but it worked. It was a very interesting interaction that took place during the game but after the game both coach and player said its in the past and they got the win.
